PET NAMES

I said as I pulled her close and kissed her cheek, and then her neck.

'Do you object to me calling you sweetheart?
I don't think that you could object to anything,'
I said as she smiled,
'while you're in my arms.

You may have hated pet names,
but you didn't understand them
until you were in my arms.'

The lines: I said as she smiled, "While you're in my arms" have an issue, but oh well.
The scene is correct that way, it's just hard to read when written.
Tried adding italics to make it less of an issue.
