FLOWERS AT THE DOOR

I fell in love with you,
long ago,
back when we were young.
When you and I used to walk to school,
together, hand in hand.
And I fell in love with you then-
your hair, your smile, your laughs,
the fights you'd get into that I'd have to win
and the way you wouldn't back down from your thoughts.
But it was not to be,
it was not to last, it was not predestined,
because both then and now with you and me,
we're just together as best friends.
And as much as I love you
and as much as I want it
and as much as I wish for more,
I know that now we're still best friends
and that's why,
My love,
I leave the flowers
at the door.

and then I finished it on the metro ride home:)
We're actually not just still best friends if you ask me,
we're blossoming into more.
But at any rate, the poem's about leaving the flowers at the door
Without telling her they're from me, as opposed to giving them to her,
due to the fact that we're supposed to be just best friends and not more.
