BALCONY

I linger beneath your balcony
like a peasant from the fields,
yearning for the dream
of marrying the Baron's daughter --
for her beauty, for her grace,
for her kindness,
- nay, for her wit.

For though she be educated
and know her sums,
I know nought but my fields,
and am impressed by it.

I wish for the cloths of heaven
that I may lay them at her feet,
but I am but a simple farmer
and have no such cloths.

I stand with the falling snow
framing my figure in the pallid light
of the house in the countryside,
dreaming my peasant life away.

Maybe the last line should be "daydreaming" my peasant life away?
