What about salvation and eternal life?

You must receive the Holy Spirit and be converted! Become like a child in your faith and spiritual convictions, and allow the Lord Jesus to change you from within. If you despise your sins and are seeking your salvation, pray for repentance and ask Jesus to come into your heart and save you.

Are you a Calvinist?

In a way, yes I am. I finally came to the realization that I couldn't justify the doctrine of free will with anything found in Scripture.

What is Calvinism?

Calvinism originated from the teachings John Calvin (1509-1564), an early church reformer. Also known as reformed theology, it is generally agreed to mean a series of doctrines emphasizing the absolute sovereignty of God over His creation, as well as the absolute sinfulness of man. I have taken some liberties with the original T.U.L.I.P., because that was devised by the corrupt Anglican Church. (They were trying to make a compromise between Arminianism and Calvinism.)

  • Total Depravity means that all mankind, because of original sin, has been completely emptied of the glory that God intends for him to have in his Creator. It means that every unsaved person is condemned because of his sins. Once a person becomes a believer in Christ, that condemnation is taken away. (Jr. 17:9; Jn. 3:6,18)
  • Unconditional Election means that, before the creation of the world, God chose some individuals and appointed them to receive His grace and to have eternal life in His Son. Note: Some theologians insist on a double predestination; in other words, that God made the choice long ago which sinners were to be condemned and which were to be saved. (Ac. 9:1-22; Rom. 9:18-26; Ep. 1:3-8)
  • Limited Justification (some say Limited Atonement or Limited Redemption) means that only the elect (those God elected to grace and eternal life, whom He also will have called to repentance) will be considered righteous at the last judgment. Note: In 1 Jn. 2:2 propitiation i.e. the removal of divine wrath "for our sins" and "for those of the whole world" need not mean the removal of divine wrath from the individual. This is because the individual is still His enemy, and opposed to His will. To be saved from God's divine wrath, one must be justified by having a change of heart; this change can only be made by the Holy Spirit. (Jn. 15:13,14; Rom. 9:22-24)
  • Irrepressible Grace (some say Irresistible Grace) means simply that. Real believers in Christ (the elect) cannot and will not turn away from their faith in the one true God, because it was granted to them. Grace is a gift, not a decision made by fickle man. (Jr. 17:14)
  • Preservation of the Saints (some say Perseverance of the Saints) means that although true believers can fall into sin and away from serving God, they cannot lose their salvation or fall under the state of condemnation. A true believer cannot become a "true" unbeliever. Note: Calvin's theology gives glory to God for the "perseverance" of the saints. In other words, the saints will persevere in their faith only because God preserves their souls from the evil one (Satan). (Jr. 50:5; Jn. 10:27-30; Rom. 8:1-39; Ep. 1:3-8; Ti. 3:3-8)

These are also known as the doctrines of grace, and are often taught (in various versions) from Calvinist pulpits as pillars of the Christian faith. But actually, they reflect only the basics of what Calvin taught. If you'd like to learn more about this system of theology, hunt yourself down a copy of Calvin's Institutes of the Christian Religion and read through all 1,200 (I'm estimating) pages of his work. (I haven't read the whole thing yet, but I plan to eventually.)

When did you learn to play the guitar?

I picked it up over the summer of 2004.

How many foreign languages do you speak in all?

The only foreign language I really understand and speak fluently is German. Actually I was just making a wild guess (with the help of a Sweedish-English dictionary I downloaded) when I put together that jumbled sentence on the links page. I did take three Spanish courses from a local technical college, but I can only understand the written language.

Do you plan to get married someday?

I don't plan on anything. But hmm ... what Proverbs would speak to that? Let's see ...

There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. - Proverbs 16:25

Okay, okay, so I took that out of context. But this one is right:

A man's heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps. - Proverbs 16:9
