Richard is the Cookes' chauffeur, gardener, and errand-runner all at once. It's possible he does other things as well, since he seems to be called away by Mr Cooke all the time, but what sorts of other things are unknown.
It's also unknown if Richard gets paid for anything. He does live at the manor and doesn't go to college, though he's the right age.
Ricard keeps more important secrets than anyone could ever guess.
