Draco Malfoy is very much full of himself. A pureblood through and through and a Death Eater of Voldemort's troops, he knows death and doesn't shy from it. But, when faced with the tough-faced Kit, he gives pause. Self image is everything to him and he'll do anything to save himself.
When given the task of attending a Muggle school by Voldemort, Draco had no way to refuse, though he would have liked to. Instead, he takes on his task with full intention and is kind to those he meets, though he keeps himself from caring for them. He knows better than to care for those he'd kill when the time came.
Draco looks for more than just friendship from Kit/Kat and Hermione.
