Welcome to Houston Bariatric Support Group
My name is Donna Boehm and I work at Twelve Oaks Medical Center's Bariatric Surgery Center
located at:
4200 Twelve Oaks Drive
Houston,Texas 77027
My phone is 713-960-7989.
We have a free support group that is open to any bariatric patient regardless of where their surgery was preformed.
Our only goal is to provide support for our weight loss partners.
I am post-op Roux-n-y 13 years and I didn't have the opportunity to go to a support group when I had my surgery. There were no support groups out there for me, that is why this is so important to me to help myself and others through the togetherness of a support. I learn daily from other patients even 13 years later.
Our meetings are the 4th Wednesday of the month at 6:00 p.m.on the first floor of the hospital, except holidays there could be an adjustment. Call me I can give you more instructions.
If your not sure of how to get to Twelve Oaks , here is a link to Yahoo Maps Yahoo Maps
We have a registered dietitian at all our support groups, to answer your questions on food issues such as, "I am eating enough protein?" "Carb intake" "Crave control" . We talk about grieving the loss of food. Beauty tips inside and out, we talk about everything and anything important to you!
This is a FREE program you can talk or just listen no pressure , come as you are, shorts and tennis shoes or straight from the office.
Sherron Lovelady is the Bariatric Coordinator and I am her assistant, we are both bariatric patients so we have walked the path your on.
Please come and take advantage of our group your presence can only add to the experience.
We have people one week out of surgery to myself at 13 years out.
Lapbanders, Roux-n-y to VBG's all are welcome, no matter what the method we can all learn from each other and support each other.
We Are God's Butterflies
The Man found the cocoon of a Butterfly. One day a small opening appeared in the cocoon.
He watched for hours as the tiny little body struggled to force its way through the tiny opening.
Then it stopped making any progress. It appeared it had gotten as far as it could and could go no further.
Therefore, the man decided to help the butterfly, he took tiny scissors and snipped the remainder of the cocoon away the butterfly emerged easily.
However, it had a swollen body and small-shriveled wings. The man expected at any moment the wings would enlarge and expand to be able to support the body, which with contract in time. Neither happened!
The butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen body and shriveled wings. It was never able to fly.
What the man in his kindness and haste did not understand was that the struggle required for the butterfly to get through the tiny opening was God’s way of forcing the fluid from the body of the butterfly and into the wings so it could be ready for flight once it achieved its freedom from the cocoon.
Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our life. If God allowed us to go through life without any obstacles, it would cripple us.
We would not be as strong as we could have been. We could never fly.
I asked for strength, and God gave me difficulties to make me strong.
I asked for wisdom, and God gave me problems to solve.
I asked for Prosperity and God gave me brain and brawn to work.
I asked for courage, and God gave me danger to overcome.
I asked for Love and God gave me troubled people to help.
I asked for favors and God gave me opportunities.
I received nothing I asked for, but received everything I needed.
