Chapters-Indigo Canada -
Chapters Inc. was formed following the merger of Coles and SmithBooks, then Canada's two largest bookstore chains. In 1994, Canadian General Capital and Pathfinder Capital purchased SmithBooks from Federal Industries, and later that year acquired Coles from Southam Inc. The strategy was to build a strong base company and use its financial strength to invest in the development of large format book superstores.
In April 1995, the merger of SmithBooks and Coles was finalized, and in November 1995, the new company,
Chapters Inc. opened its first two book superstores and from there grew to become the largest book retailer in Canada, operating bookstores in all provinces, under the names Chapters, Coles, SmithBooks, and World's Biggest Bookstore.

Reader Reviews Average Reader Review: Number of Reviews: 6 1. Still Great After 7 Times!! Reviewer: Melissa Grant from St. Thomas, ON Date: 2/2/2001 11:11:42 PM I first read this story when I was quite young. Now at the age of 31 I think I have read it about 7 times. It is a book full of adventure, love and death. I can't wait to dog ear my hard copy while reading it to my son. Also if you would like to know a movie was made of Watership Down that follows the story fairly accuratly. It is a cartoon (drawn well). 2. High adventure...low to the ground Reviewer: kerrie m. from toronto ont. Date: 11/11/2000 7:59:49 PM Adams' fantasy masterpiece - far too intense (and violent) to be considered a children's story, no matter how it may be packaged. There's a distinct lack of adorable-bunny-ness on offer here; these are desperate wild animals using their courage and wits to survive. Their struggle has all the dramatic sweep of the true old-fashioned quest - a wonderfully entire lapine world, language, mythology and all, out of what would seem to be very unlikely material. Essential for thoughtful fantasy and nature-story fans...from age 13 up. 3. not just for kids Reviewer: Brett from Edmonton (blaikie@hotmail.com) Date: 10/16/2000 2:21:18 PM I first read this at twelve years old, and enjoyed it very much as an adventure story about rabbits. I read it again at twenty-seven years old and found a lot more going on. It sits beside Tolkien's the Lord of the Rings trilogy on my bookshelf. 4. Too Much! Reviewer: Melanie from Ottawa Date: 7/23/2000 9:34:11 PM I sort of like this book because I believe animals shouldn't be harmed by humans, so the portrayal of these rabbits as victims of human's actions touched me. However, this book was aimed at children and at 400+ pages is much too long. The author drags the rabbit's adventures out too long; this book would have been more effective if Adams would have shortened his epic into a shorter story. 5. Watership Way Up Reviewer: Melissa L from Airlisle, Ontario (dontgottaclue@mindless.com) Date: 12/6/1999 2:23:17 PM This is a fantastic book for anyone who likes a good adventure story. It is all about a rabbit who goes on a journey. Anyone who likes this book should defintely read the book Tailchaser's Song by Tad Williams, both great additives to anyones personal collection!
