People tend to think of perception as an automatic process. We see, hear, smell, taste or feel stimuli that affect our senses. We think that if we are at all objective, we record what is actually there, and maybe so. Yet perception is an active rather than a passive process; it constructs rather than records "reality." Perception implies understanding as well as awareness. It is a process in which people construct their own version of reality on the basis of information provided.
I see the world from a position of sitting. I cannot get out of my chair to look farther than you, but I can stay in my chair and look closer than most. I see the beauty that is right in front of my face. A Buddhist monk once said to my cousin, “Everybody is so busy looking everywhere to find their truth, that they forget to look in the once place that the truth is; In front of your face.” I look in front of my face to see the truth of beauty.
