Hi fellow Kennedy researchers! I am so happy to have stumbled across this
info exchange on Kennedys. I am researching a line of Kennedys from
Garrard Co. KY descended from James Kennedy (1735-1825). My line is from
his son Samuel Kennedy (1795 - 1844) who married Rebecca Pickleshimer in
1814 in Garrard Co. KY. They had 9 children and I am descended from their
youngest son Samuel Anderson Kennedy, b 1836 in Garrard Co. After Samuel
Sr. died, Rebecca and her youngest children migrated to MO, either Clay or
Mercer Co. around 1850. I have not been able to locate the family in MO,
although Rebecca's father, Henry Pickleshimer, apparently owned land in
Clay Co. as she inherited from his estate in 1844. My ancestor Samuel
joined the Union Army and served in the 23rd MO, enlisting at Benton
Barracks in 1861 and mustering out as a sargeant at Louisville KY in 1865.
He located in Xenia, Clay Co.,IL where he married Henrietta Clark Modlin in
1866.
My research started in Clay Co. with the marriage of Samuel Anderson
Kennedy and Henrietta Modlin, but subsequently I discovered that several of
Sam's siblings also migrated to Clay Co. IL., several before the war. In
all, 5 of the 9 siblings ended up in Clay Co. IL, including the Oglesby,
Austin, Samuel Kennedy, William Kennedy and Hardin families. Other
siblings included Arthusa who married Abram Peters, possibly in Grundy Co.,
MO, Susan Kennedy, who married ? Crope in MO before 1844 and James Mason
Kennedy, who married an Oglesby, but stayed in Garrard Co. KY.
I have been trying to track the descendents of Samuel Kennedy and Rebecca
Pickleshimer, but also any of Sam's siblings, children of James Kennedy of
Garrard Co. I have exchanged info with Mona Kennedy on the David "Wells"
line and with another researcher on the Robert Kennedy line.
Anyway, hope to share info with anyone researching these Kennedys.
