THE KENNEDY ROYAL BLOODLINES
Beginning in the year 844 AD
How the Kennedys as an Ancient Family Originated and the Progression of The Family tree.
We begin the Kennedy family in Scotland with the best-recorded bloodlines those of the Royal Families and their connection to the Kennedy name. The Kennedy connective genealogy appears twice in the royal bloodlines. I am providing these very simplified genealogical charts below to aid your understanding. I wish that I could offer some further glimmer to your understanding of these complicated bloodlines, but alas only study and restudy of these charts will provide you with the information. The first chart deals with the earliest of the Scottish Kings (844 AD) and how the Kennedys came to be. The second chart deals with the line of descent from Robert I, King of Scotland; called "Robert the Bruce" he was born July 11, 1274; died at Cardos on June 7, 1329. The marriage of his daughter Mary Stewart into the family of Kennedy is recorded, thereby giving the Kennedys a second confluence with the royal bloodlines.

His Daughter married King Robert De Bruce. His right to lead the clan was confirmed

these original families from Roland Kennedy and From Kennedy of Dunure (See

Marquis de Ailsa following the death of Duncan Kennedy). Roland "took the name
Kennedy in the 14th Century." (Go to 1A)

*****
Hence the Kennedy family is descended from King Duncan I of Scotland. You remember your earlier education on the Kings of Scotland seeking out closely related blood ties to marry. Now this second chart shows a marriage of a Kennedy once again into the Royal Family. It follows the descent from the Royal Family to their immigrants to America.

It is believed that all the foregoing Kennedy families are related either by virtue of being descendants of common ancestors, or by intermarriage.
There is both a Scotch and an Irish Line of the Kennedy Family.
As noted above, Sir John Kennedy married the daughter of the Earl of Haddington, and continued the Scotch line of the family. The brother of Sir John Kennedy, Colonel Gilbert Kennedy, father of the Revs. Thomas and Gilbert, the latter becoming the father of a second Rev. Gilbert, father of the emigrants Gilbert, Robert and William, all were of the Irish family line. The emigrants: Gilbert, Robert, and William settled in Pennsylvania in 1730.
The Rev. Thomas, mentioned above, elder son of Col. Gilbert made his home in Ireland and was the father of Rev. Thomas II and the Rev. John. The latter is said to have been the father of Andrew, Anthony and John, all of whom immigrated to America in the latter half of the 18th century or in about 1756. Of these the first settled in Philadelphia, the second made his home in Frankfort, Pennsylvania; and the third settled first in Virginia, but later moved to Maryland, settled there and married Nancy Clayton Pendleton by whom he was the father of John, Andrew, Anthony and Pendleton Kennedy.
The Three brothers, Gilbert, Robert and William, named above, and who came to Pennsylvania in 1730, settled in Bucks County. The descendants, if any of Gilbert are not known; the second brother Robert, was the father of at least two sons Hugh & Henry; the third brother William had a son named William.

THE OTHER KENNEDY IMMIGRANT FAMILIES
These two families mentioned below (Alexander Kennedy & Samuel Kennedy) were also immigrants to America (The New World) but are not the Virginia Kennedys. The information is provided here to help researchers who are looking for their family connections avoid the confusion of where the Virginia Kennedys and the other immigrant families came from.
Other families of the name Kennedy came to America in the early settlement period. One of the firsts was Alexander Kennedy who immigrated to Plymouth, Massachusetts sometime before 1678. He had issue by Elizabeth his wife, of Hannah, Elizabeth, Joanna, William, Sarah, Annabella, and John.

There were many other Kennedy families who came to America in later years as immigrants from Both Scotland and Ireland. Some may have settled in Virginia and other eastern ports. Others came into ports in the Western part of The United States and account for the Western Kennedy families. Some came into ports in Canada and account for the Canadian and some of the Northern Kennedy Families. There were not only migrants from their native land but migrated from place to place in the New World. They resided for a while in a particular area and then moved onward into unexplored territory. This makes their wanderings very difficult to trace.
