Some information on my line of John Kennady, b ca 1740-42 d 1 FEB 1801 in Nelson Co. KY, grave marked by the local Bardstown, KY DAR chapter and the Oakland, CA SAR chapter,
Sid Kennedy p/pres. The family left Scotland during the religous wars, ca 1660's, and settled north of Belfas in Ireland, coming to the Colonies in 1699 to what family tradition states, western Virginia.
My proven trail picks up in New Jersey when old John Kennady's fist son Charles was born 12 DEC 1763 to John's first wife, name unknown. Three more sons were born to this first family including my Peter (captured by Indians in 1783, escaped 1785) Moses and John. These three children were born as the family moved west through southern PA to Washington Co. MD, probably Old Town One Hundred.
just across the Potomac River from Patterson Creek, WV. Old John's first wife died, and on 10 December 1777, he married Elizabeth GONTERMAN (Countryman)
at [atterson Creek , Rev Dod(d) presiding. The Rev stateds that both parties wee from WaSHINGTON co. MD. In 1779 the family moved to the confluence of the Rolling Fork and Beech Fork Rivers in what is now Nelson Co. KY. Here six more sons were born, Henry b 1779m Rebecca Brown; James b 22 JUL 1782, m Sarah Johnson;
Daniel m Hannah Brown; William, died prior 1818;saac b 1789, m Lyndia Dyson;
George b ca 1792, m Esther Howard. John's 2nd wife Elizabeth died 09 NOV 1802.
Old John Kennady and his son Charles borth served in the Revolutionary War in Capt. Peter Asturgres Co. under Gen. George Rogers Clark in the IL campaign, 1781 are are both registerd with the DAR andf SAR societies.
I have published a book of my John Kennady line and it is fairly complete to present., but I did lose the family of George and Esther Kennedy in Meade Co. KY in 1854 and their eleven children. by census count, five females, one male and children, Margaret
William,Thmas, Samuel, and Lydia b ca 1840.
I am Chieftain of the Kennedy Society of North America and bear my own armorial bearing authorized by the Lord Lyon of Scotland. Iam also a member of British Royal Legion of Maybole Scotland. The legion was founded by Lord Archibald Kennedy and Gen Earl Haig at CULZEAN Castle, the Kennedy home at that time.
Yours Aye, Sid
