I Have several Kennedy in my line trying to deterine area they came from The First is a John Kennedy in New York 1755 And A John Kennedy 1788 born in New York. What Area do you think that Kennedy in America Came from in the the Above Period. Sign Glenn Kennedy
RESPONSE:
1755 was right in the middle of the Penal Laws (1695-1829). If John
Kennedy was Irish he may have sailed direct from Ireland to New York under some sort of an indenture to an employer there. If he had a popular trade this is a possibility. Alternatively, he may have been a descendant of the Wild Geese (the Irish army) who left Ireland after the Treaty of Limerick in 1691 and went into exile in France and Spain and enlisted in armies there. His ancestor or himself would subsequently have travelled from the Continent to New York. I think it is more likely that he or his ancestor went direct from Ireland, his ancestor perhaps even earlier than 1700. "The Irish Kennedys" has references to Kennedys in America as early as 1633 and 1675. He may
even be descended from one of these.
