THE SCOTTISH KENNEDY CLAN SEATS
In each Scottish clan there was a home place or "seat" from which all of the clan recognized as home. The Kennedy clan had two seats. Cassillis House, Maybole, Scotland, (the chiefly seat), and Culzean Castle, near Maybole, Ayr, Ayrshire, Scotland, (the principle seat) now held by the National Trust for Scotland.
Cassillis House
The Cassillis House is Located near Ayr, Scotland. It was the Kennedy family home.
Culzean Castle
The Culzean Castle is located on the southwestern coast of Ireland across from the Isle of Arran, a small island in the Irish Sea. It is located near Maybole, Scotland and is 12 miles Southwest of Ayr, Scotland. The castle is quite large and is now owned by the National Trust for Scotland. It is one of the finest Adam Houses (Hotels) in Scotland with spacious policies and gardens, an adventure playground.
The castle sits on cliffs high above the Irish Sea and is not mooted.
The castle contains a Visitor Center, Licensed Restaurant and Shops. It is open to the public from April 1 through October 25 from 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM and at other times by appointment. Admission is f3.
Also there you will find Culzean Country Park and Gardens, beautiful Scottish gardens and a park which is open all year. Admission is free to pedestrians. There is a parking charge of f5 for cars from April 1 through October 25. Hours are from 9 AM to Sunset.
