Allen was the son of Thomas Kennedy and Mary/Polly Young. They brought
Allen and his sibblings from Tennessee in 1830 to southwestern
Missouri. Allen was born with a club foot, but it did not hold him back
from being a farmer, home builder and a father of many children. His
children grew up to be doctors, lawyers, teachers and farmers. My
grandmother Lucy told me stories about her growing up in Missouri. She
taught school at age 16, met a young man that she was taken with, that
didn't meet with the approval of her father, so was sent to live in the
Indian Territory with her married brother, Samuel Grant Kennedy. She
met and married my grandfather Walter Albert Lombard, an Osage/Cherokee
Indian, mixed with French. They had three daughters, one of which is
my mother, Samie Lombard Wood.
