Komputers for Kids is a non profit program that provides home computers for low income
families with school aged children. Our program gives
every family in this community an opportunity to have access
to a computer in their home.
Since computers are
becoming more prevalent in every school and workplace, giving students an
equal chance to gain computer access at home provides them with a window
of opportunity to expand their computer skills. These skills
may then be used and expanded upon in later applications.
The
computers are on loan only. However, every family may keep the
computer as long as they demonstrate the need for one. When the computer
no longer serves the family's purpose we will pick up the
system.
A qualified computer
technician will provide information to the family and give the child and
parents instructions on how to access the computer programs and if the
need exists initial in-home set-up is available.
In addition, this
program also provides training opportunities to Ontario Works
applicants, giving them a chance to expand their horizons and learn
a new trade which could enable them to find full-time
employment.
