Henderson Field was our hold on life. Above top shows how few planes remained in flying condition so our position was precarious. On the O'Bannon, a hasty exit was sometimes our only option and hopefully Jap planes would not find us. Eventually, the tide turned and the day that I took the report that from Martin Clemmons' group that 60 Jap fighters and 60 dive bombers were on there way down, pessimism turned to optimism when our spotter reported seeing 90 of our fighter planes hitting the air.
