October 16, 2008...TIGERS "BEAR" THEIR CLAWS AND TAKE THE STING OUT OF THE HORNETS

Tonight at Vic Johnston Arena the Streetsville Tigers played a disciplined and well executed game, defeating the Mississauga Hornets 5-0. It was the simple things that made the game so enjoyable to watch. Tiger pride shone through in the way they executed passes, back checked and simply being 1st to the puck ahead of their opponents. Captain Derek Johnson led the team with several big hits and spirited play while defenseman Ben Paraschuk followed his lead by executing a perfect open ice hip check, sending the Hornets player head over heels. Mark Shiozaki also showed some leadership by restraining himself from retaliating against a Hornets player who came out swinging after being taken out aggressively into the boards. The Hornets player was tossed from the game while Shiozaki didn't receive a penalty

Despite their dominate play the Tigers finished the 1st period with only a 1-0 lead thanks to some solid goaltending by the Hornets goalie. Jeremy Hunt finally broke through by skillfully batting the airborne puck out of the air behind a startled Hornets goaltender. In the 2nd period Davis Stan scored the Tigers 2nd goal on a breakaway. While the goalie got a piece of the puck it trickled over the line. 40 seconds later Jace McGrath scored a 1-timer on a nice cross ice pass from Andres Garzon. Not to be denied Ray Cadeau, who was buzzing around the Hornets net all night finally buried one after some fancy passing from Ryan johnston and David Gallo. That ended the scoring in the 2nd period with the Tigers ahead 4-0.

The 3rd period saw Jeremy Hunt score his 2nd goal of the game on a beautiful pass from Mack Deman. The final score was 5-0 with Matt "Bear" Emanuele earning a well deserved shutout. Bear has been doing yeoman's duty between the pipes the last few games since Conor Clark's injury.

Congratulations Tigers!!!

The team now heads to Rochester,New York where they will get a taste of college life and apparently some serious shopping for the parents.
