February 20, 2009...TIGERS ELIMINATE THE HUSKIES TO ADVANCE TO THE QUARTERFINALS The Streetsville Tigers showed some heart last night with a gritty win against the now eliminated Humberview Huskies. During this 4-point series the Tigers have had their backs against the wall several times but have shown the rest of the division that they are a force to be reckoned with when faced with adversity. Conor Clark continued his solid play, frustrating the Huskies players with several spectacular stops. He also received support from the "D", led by Captain Derrick Johnston, Mark Shiozaki, David Johnston and Ben Paraschuk. Up front Davis Stan delivered one of his most effective games by scoring the Tigers 1st and 2nd goals, giving the Tigers an early 2-0 lead. The Huskies battled back to tie the score 2-2 but Andres Garzon responded by scoring the winning goal with just over 2 minutes remaining. "Mackie" Deman showed some "True Grit" by taking on all comers and certainly not picking his spots against the larger Huskies team. Respectfully it was obvious that they were aware when he was on the ice. Also of note were the colourful and loud Tigers supporters. It was quite a vision to see several of the Tigers "Dads" sporting New Orleansesque orange beads around the necks...I'm sure it inspired all of our boys...NOT!!! The Tigers now advance to the 6-ppoint quarterfinals against the Humber Valley Sharks with games Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. While the Sharks have not played since the end of the season they will be hungry to get back on the ice. |
