MAY 5, 2007…TIGERS SWEEP GAMES 2 & 3 FOR A COMBINED 16-0
The Streetsville Tigers left a lasting impression in the Minor Midget division of the Lakeshore Thunder International Classic Tournament with 2 decisive wins, 9-0 against the Glaciers from Chicago and 7-0 against the Del Raiders. The new recruits continue to make an impression with their new teammates both on and off the ice.

Missing from the line-up is Adam Galbraith, who is nursing a sore arm (he’ll be back any moment now…right Mike?!) and Brendan Post.

In the 1st game on Saturday, Kyle Morrison started the Tigers attack with 2 goals in the 1st 5 minutes of the game. His 2nd goal was a “Laser” (say it while making quotation marks) that Austin Powers would have been proud of. With 5 minutes remaining David Gallo slammed in his 1st goal of the game to surge the Tigers ahead 3-0. Not to be denied part of the action Davis Stan scored with just over a minute remaining after a nice pass from Gallo.

In the 2nd period Davis walked out from the corner and fired a pinpoint shot into the far side making it 5-0 over the out gunned Glaciers. David Gallo potted his 2nd of the game after Derrick Johnson fired a rocket from the point.

The Tigers went ahead 7-0 with the persistent Justin Iskra hammering away from in close, forcing the puck over the redline. Ryan Johnston exhibited his unselfish side by pausing in front of a wide open net faking 2 shots and passing off to Morrison who tipped it in for his hat-trick (at least I think that was what Ryan was doing). Dustin Hayward closed out the scoring on a nice tic-tac-toe play with Kyle. The final score was 9-0 with Matt Emanuele picking up the shutout. Couldn’t end this story without noting a spectacular end to end rush by David Johnston that literally fell short when he was tripped up by one of the Glacier defenders.

In the evening game against the Del Raiders the Tigers maintained their momentum and threw the puck around with jeweler like precision. The Del Raiders were physically much bigger but as usual it brought out the best in players like David Canavan, Mark Shiozaki, Jace McGrath and Sean Corvetti.

The Tigers once again opened the scoring late in the 1st period when off the face-off Kyle Morrison drew it back to Derrick Johnson at the point who fired it at the net leaving a rebound for the opportunistic David Gallo. Early in the 2nd period Jace McGrath raced around the net and dropped it back to David Johnson who fired a low hard shot leaving a rebound for Morrison to banc in for the 2-0 lead. Conor Clarke covered all the angles, stopping the Del Raiders when called upon.

The Tigers went ahead 3-0 when Davis Stan fed a perfect pass across the net to a waiting Morrison for his 2nd goal of the game. With 3 minutes remaining and the Tigers holding a 2 man advantage, Mark Shiozaki loaded up the cannon and blasted one through the goaltender. With 2 minutes remaining David Canavan scored after receiving a nice pass from Justin Iskra and then with only 28 seconds remaining Ray Cadeau performed a behind the back wrap around to round out the scoring in the 2nd period 6-0. The 3rd period saw Ryan Johnston score on a nice pass from Jace McGrath and Kyle Morrison. The final score of the game was 7-0 and now the Tigers look forward to their semi-final game on Sunday.
