May 4, 2007...STREETSVILLE TIGERS TIE THE KINGSTON BEAST IN GAME 1 OF LAKESHORE THUNDER CLASSIC
It is with great anticipation that the Minor Midget Streetsville Tigers started the season last night at the Brampton Powerade Centre (wasn't it only a few weeks ago that we had the season ending party?!). The coaching staff of Mike Canavan, Matt Emanuele and Rob Canavan have recruited some new "Tigers" this year, all adding a new dimension to the 07/08 team. A special welcome to Kyle Morrison, Derrick Johnson, David Gallo, Davis Stan and Brendan Post.

Also new to the team roster is Cole Johnston who has some big shoes to fill as Manager of the team. Tamara Emanuele has simply done an amazing job as Manager of the 1st year Tigers last year as well as the many years she managed the Meadowvale Mohawks. Thank-you Tamara for your leadership, support and commitment.

In last nights game the Tigers came out of the gate strong with some adept breakouts and pin point passing. There were also some big hits early to set the tone for the rest of the game.

The Tigers swarmed the Beast for the first few minutes and were rewarded at 10:42 when David Gallo scored is 1st goal as a Tiger by being persistent in front of the opponents net and burying his 2nd attempt at a rebound. Maintaining the momentum, Dustin Hayward leveled one of the opposing players against the boards for his 1st big hit of the season, while David "D" Johnston displayed his "soft hands" with a perfect pass up the middle to a breaking Kyle Morrison. Not to be denied, goaltender Conor Clarke made a huge save on a breakaway with only 4 minutes left. The entertaining 1st period ended with the Tigers maintaining a 1-0 lead.

Early in the 2nd period, Justin Iskra made his presence felt with a big hit of his own. Unfortunately this is when the AHEM!!!...momentum started swinging the other way as the Tigers were called for a penalty and the Beast scored on the ensuing power-play to tie the score. Play by both teams started to get scrambly and several penalties basically took away any momentum the Tigers had sustained for most of the 1st period and early into the 2nd. Depsite the efforts of the team they were unable to score another goal and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

Conditioning may have been a factor near the end of the game as well as some new faces getting use to their new team-mates.
