Oct 8, 2007...BURLINGTON TOURNAMENT - TIGERS LOSE IN THE SEMI-FINAL AND ANOTHER PLAYER TO INJURY
The Streetsville Tigers participated in the 16th Annual Ron Wilkins Tournament this weekend and despite losing game 3 to the host Burlington Eagles on Sunday they still managed to place 1st in their division. The 3 games were a mixed bag of spectacular plays, not so spectacular ones, questionable calls, players running at each other, chirping back and forth...wait, it sounds like a regular day at the rink.

The Tigers ended up losing to the Aurora Tigers 4-6 in the semi-final and defenseman Mark Shiozaki with a separated shoulder. They quickly found themselves down 3-1 in the 1st period of the game despite David Johnstons sizzling blast to the top corner. Soon after that Shiozaki hit one of the opposing Aurora players and suffered a separated left shoulder. Inital progonosis is 6-8 weeks, just in time for more turkey!

Despite the falling behind early the Tigers fought back but fell short 4-6 and were eliminated from reaching the Final.

Coach Mike Canavan, somewhat despondent after the game stated "It was too bad we had to play 3 periods today." but as usual his thoughts quickly turned to the next game and was already anticipating his plan for the next practices prior to meeting the udefeated Vaughan Panthers on Sunday October 14.

In the other games Justin Iskra was a standout in the Tigers loss to Burlington on Sunday with a beautiful breakaway goal as well as his regular tenacious play in the corners. to cap it off he also tipped in a shot from Mark Shiozaki who was fed the puck icely by Sean Corvetti. Conor Clark was outstanding in net, keeping the Tigers in the game by blokcing several shots.

Saturday's affair was one that best be forgotten as it turned into a chippy game that ended up being over 2.5 hours long. With the game well out of hand the opposing Windsor Spitfires started running the Tigers players, we were lucky to get out of there without any serious injuries. The final score of the game was 8-0 in favour of our Tigers with goals by Ray Cadeau (2), Dustin Hayward (2), Jace McGrath (2), David Johnston and Kyle Morrison. It was nice to see Ryan Johnston skating during the warm-up but it had quite of the Tigers supporters scratching their heads...is he going to play?

Their were some real magical moments as the Tigers through around the puck with surgeon like precision, culminating in several candidates for HON (Highlight Of the Night).

The Tigers now return to the regular season play minus Ryan Johnston, Mark Shiozaki and Dustin Hayward (a late addition to the injurey list).
