OCTOBER 1, 2007…TIGERS BACK ON TRACK AFTER 1ST LOSS After a rather uninspiring 3-0 loss Sunday night to the West Mall Lightning, the Tigers were out for a little redemption against the Mississauga Terriers at Erin Mills arena. Often the teams nemesis, the Tigers can’t take any team lightly as it is still very early in the season and their may be a few surprises the 1st time around. The 1st period was a bit scrambly with the Tigers dominating most of the play but unfortunately unable to put one past the Terriers goaltender. Included was a short 2 man advantage, 5 minute major and several 2 minute minors. Regretfully the 1st period ended 0-0 with many of the Tigers supporters wondering if it was going to be one of those games when we dominate but fall behind on a lucky break for our opponents. It wasn’t until late in the 2nd period with 1:27 remaining that Kyle Morrison scored from Ray Cadeau. The play was started on a nice break out by David Canavan, drawing the Terriers and creating an opening to allow Morrison to trickle one over the goaltenders blocker side. Despite the advantage to the Tigers they ended the 2nd period only leading 1-0. To make things challenging for themselves the Tigers faced a 4 minute penalty. Dustin Hayward and Adam Galbraith were outstanding while shorthanded, utilizing their speed and adept stick work. Matt Emanuele also made sure that the Terriers remembered his number by stopping everything and anything that they could throw his way. With cat like reflexes he snagged pucks out of the air. To add insult to injury Morrison did it all himself while the Tigers were shorthanded and put on a bit of a clinic as he stripped the puck off the defender, shifted left then right and buried it on the short-side to finish the scoring 3-0. Derrick Johnson and Sean Corvetti were both stalwarts on the “D” with their energetic play, stepping up in the trenches and dishing out a few hits of their own. Of note Matt Emanuele earned his 3rd shutout of the year and has not been scored on this season. The Tigers now venture to Burlington for a weekend Thanksgiving Tournament.
