November 3, 2007...TIGERS DIG DEEP BUT LOSE STEAM IN SEMI-FINAL LOSS TO STRATFORD The Streetsville Tigers competed in their host tournament this past weekend at the Etobicoke Ice Sports Arena. With a shortened bench due to injuries and suspensions the Tigers battled into the Semi-Finals on Saturday but were unable to advance to the Sunday championship match. Coach Mike Canavan stated “the effort was their” but unfortunately they were just out manned and despite the aggressive dry land program the Tigers just ran out of gas. The Tigers newest addition, Joey Timpano, has certainly made his presence known in more ways than one. All weekend Joey could be seen sniping for as many bone crunching body checks as the opposition could take. When going offensive he exhibited a slap shot heavy enough to penetrate any goalies armour…no need to pick any corners…just put it through them! Kyle Morrison exhibited the art of stickhandling on more than one occasion with the puck appearing it to be stuck to his stick like a magnet. Slipping in and out he either created scoring chances for himself or for his appreciative linemates. Yeoman work by the defensive crew or law firm of Johnston, Johnson, Corvetti & Canavan. On Day 1 the Tigers defeated the Burlington Eagles 2-0 in the morning match and tied the team from North Toronto 2-2 after giving up a 2-0 lead. Day 2 the Tigers lost to the team from south of the border, Webster 5-3 but still advanced to the semi-finals later that evening to face the undefeated and eventual champions, Stratford Warriors from Group B. In the Webster game goals were scored by Kyle Morrison, Justin Iskra and Jace McGrath. The semi-final game turned out to be a exercise in survival as the Tigers were shorthanded on the bench for the whole game. Joey Timpano spent most of the game moving back to the D while the rest of the team double shifted. Despite this they exhibited the heart of a Tiger and fought back by scoring 4 unanswered goals after Stratford scored 2 quick ones to start the game. Kyle Morrison scored 2 goals with singles by Cadeau and Timpano. The Warriors scored a goal late in the 2nd period and carried the momentum into the 3rd, scoring in less than 2 minutes and ending the game with an empty netter, making the final score 4-6.
