January 9, 2008...IT WASN'T PRETTY BUT TIGERS WIN 8TH GAME IN A ROW The Tigers won their 8th game in a row Wednesday night with a 3-1 victory over the Etobicoke Canucks. Despite early pressure they were unable to put the puck past the hot Canuck goaltender until David Gallo scored on a one-timer after receiving a perfect cross ice pass from Ray Cadeau. The Tigers continued their relentless attack but were unable to widen their lead. The 2nd period was much the same however it was the Canucks who capitalized on the power play to tie the score 1-1. With that the momentum swung slightly in the Canucks favour but Conor Clark between the pipes was up for the challenge and stymied any further Canuck attacks. Some big hits were dished out by Mark Shiozaki and Derek Johnston while DJ quarterbacked the clearing of the puck out of the defensive zone adeptly. David Canavan also stuck is nose into the action on several occasions with zeal and upended a few surprised Etobicoke players. With about 5 minutes remaining in the 3rd period Dustin Hayward rocked the Canucks goaltenders world by hammering in a slapshot from the slot giving the Tigers the lead. As expected the Tigers were handed a late penalty with less than 2 minutes remaining. The Canucks also pulled their goaltender to give them a 6 to 4 advantage but they were unable to break down Tigers defensive play and then with 15 seconds left Ray Cadeau scored into the empty net after a very unselfish play by Kyle Morrison who chipped a pass despite having a clear shot to the net himself. That left the Tigers with a 3-1 victory, remaining 1 point behind the Vaughan Panthers. Davis Stan with is best impression of Sean Avery, was under the skin of a few of the Canucks all night. Iskra, Timpano and Post continued their aggressive play, leaving carnage all over the ice after each shift. Even coach Mike was sharp, displaying cat like reflexes, snagging an errant shot off the netting behind his head. The Tigers look for win number 10 in a row Sunday night against the Humber Valley Sharks who will have a well rested bench with a return of many of the regulars, unlike their match last week.
