January 25, 2008...TIGERS PRIDE SHINES ON THE ICE The Streetsville Tigers took another important step towards finishing in the top 3 in the Minor Midget division tonight with a decisive 5-2 victory over the rival Toronto Royals. Having lost to their opponents in their 1st meeting 2-5 the Tigers knew that they were up for a tough match. One thing that shone through all game was what is developing into one of the Tigers strongest assets...PRIDE. With a sense of belonging in the upper echelon this season they are starting to execute with more consistency and playing a disciplined and confident brand of hockey. Credit to the patience of coaches Mike and Matt who have remained tenacious and committed working with our boys. The 1st goal of the game was a shorthanded gift as the Royals goaltender came out of the net to play the puck and handed it right to Jace McGrath who quickly directed it into the vacant net. With 4 minutes left in the 1st period Derrick Johnson pinched from the defense and jammed the puck into the net. The Tigers continued to press right to the end of the 1st period and with only 17 seconds left Davis Stan 409 derrick johnson from the corner deflected in. 2-0 Davis Stan rifled a blast through the goalie. Davis probably had one of his most effective games with some strong 2-way play. In the 2nd period both teams scored with David Gallo scoring after a nice pass from Kyle Morrison. 4-1 Tigers after 2. Ryan Johnston scored a nice goal in the 3rd period after receiving a pass from Mark Shiozaki who rushed the puck up the ice to clear the Tigers zone. The final score of the game was 5-2 in favour of our Tigers. Conor Clark made some stellar saves between the pipes. While it was an important victory it was also a strong game overall for the team. Their next game is against the 2nd place Vaughan Panthers on Sunday. Another "4" pointer. GO TIGERS!!!!!! |
