January 20, 2008...TIGERS MOVE BACK INTO 3RD PLACE WITH 6-2 VICTORY OVER BRAVES

The Streetsville Tigers defeated the Mississauga Braves last night 6-2 after an emotional victory against the Jets the previous night. Despite being in the lower tier of the division the Braves have proven to be a thorn in the side of many of the top teams.

The Tigers got off to a good start for the first 2 periods with goals by Dustin Hayward, David Gallo and Raymond Cadeau. While their execution was superior the Tigers had a few mental lapses that created some tense moments for the team. Dustin Hayward picked up the team with a couple more goals to earn a hat-trick of which one the goals included a very deceptive shot that he released while in mid stride, startling the unprepared Braves goaltender.

With a 5-0 lead and the clock ticking down the Tigers started to relax a bit. The opportunistic Braves jumped on this and scored 2 quick goals to narrow the lead to 5-2. It was clear that the Braves weren't going to just let this one go. Luckily for the Tigers the hard charging Justin Iskra crashed the net late in the 3rd period to give the Tigers a 4 goal lead again and the victory 6-2.

With that win the Tigers moved into 3rd place. It should be noted that their are 4 teams within 6 points of each other, not including games in hand, fighting for 4 of the top 5 spots...it's going to be real battle right to the end of the season. Tigers next play the Toronto Royals in what will be a "4 point" game on Friday as the opponents are only 2 points behind. It is also important to maintain the momentum as 5 of the next 6 games are against the top teams.
