February 18, 2008...TIGERS END THE SEASON ON A WINNING NOTE

The Streetsville Tigers Minor Midget AA team ended the regular season with a 4-2 victory over the much improved Mississauga Braves. While it wasn't an easy win the Tigers take the 2 points and end the season in 4th place. While at times this year it was frustrating for many of the team members and supporters they have made some great strides this season with some strategic player additions and the continued efforts of coach Mike and Matt. Making the playoffs in the upper tier of the final 8 is quite an accomplishment for a team who didn't make the playoffs last year.

In last nights game the Tigers came out slowly, like Heinz out of a bottle. Derrick Johnson made his presence felt early in the period with one of the biggest hits of the year on a surprised and now bruised Braves forward. Despite that the Braves forechecked effectively and pressured our boys into making some errors. At times it seemed like the Tigers were standing around watching and waiting. Kyle Morrison got the scoring started on a close in chance to put the Tigers up 1-0. This was one of three for Kyle on the evening. Jace McGrath had a huge shift while the Tigers were shorthanded and outhustled the Braves defenders, stole the puck and roofed a backhand over the startled Braves goalie. The Braves continued to pressure and were rewarded with a power play goal to make it 2-1.

Morrison scored goal number 2 but the Braves came back again to keep it close late in the 3rd period to make it 3-2. A few seconds later Kyle took the puck deep in the Braves end and fired a laser to the upper quadrant of the net to score the final regular season goal for the Tigers. Mark Shiozaki returned to action and picked up a 3 game suspension. With Joey Timpano already out for another 3 games the Tigers will be shorthanded going into the playoffs.

The West Mall Lightning will be the Tigers opponent in the 1st round.
