December 6, 2007...LIGHTNING STRIKES 3 TIMES BUT NOT ENOUGH TO STOP THE STREAKING TIGERS The Streetsville Tigers continued there winning ways last night at the Etobicoke Centennial Arena by defeating the West Mall Lightning 4-3, vaulting them into 5th place. It was a big game for our Tigers as the Lightning were 1 point ahead of them in the standings before the start of the game with 1 game in hand. The game started in a very typical manner with the Tigers taking some early penalties putting them on the defensive right from the start of the game. After successfully killing them off it seemed difficult for our boys to switch gears and get into a more offensive frame of mind, actually both teams seemed to struggle for the first 2 periods. With Kyle Morrison and Jace McGrath still absent from the lineup one player in particular, David Gallo, has stepped up his game and provided some leadership including the 1st Tigers goal of the game last night. Despite this the Lightning started the 2nd period with 2 power play goals to give them a 2-1 lead. It wasn’t until the last minute of the 2nd that David Johnston decided to load up his Howitzer and strike a blow high over the goaltenders shoulder to tie the score 2-2. In the 3rd period the Tigers “A-Team” showed up. Not sure what coach Mike, Matt and Rob said in the dressing room but whatever it was it seemed to rekindle some passion into the team. Dustin Hayward strolled into the Lightning zone effortlessly and potted a nice backhand into the net after receiving a nice feed from Mark Shiozaki. The Tigers continued to pester the opposition and with just 2:07 remaining Shiozaki fired a low hard shot that was adeptly deflected by Justin Iskra between the goaltenders legs to give the Tigers the huge win. Tigers next game is Sunday when they face the Mississauga Hornets. |
