TIGERS 2-0 TO START THE SEASON
The Streetsville Tigers Bantam AA are now 2-0 to start the 06/07 season after defeating the Vaughan Panthers 7-2. With almost the entire team making the transition from A to AA this year the coaching staff of Mike Canavan and Matt Emanuele initially focused on team conditioning and basic hockey skills. The boys have responded to their “no nonsense” approach, resulting in an encouraging start to the season.
A return match with the Vaughan Panthers this evening provided the boys an opportunity to rebound from the loss to their opponents this past weekend. With Ryan Johnston sitting out this game the Tigers started the game down one player on their roster.
From the drop of the puck it was clear that the Tigers were determined to make a game of it. They capitalized on their 1st opportunity as Sean Corvetti executed the transition from defence to offence perfectly by quickly head manning the puck up to Jace McGrath. With precision Jace feathered a pass to Dustin Hayward who fired it past the stunned Panther goaltender.
The 2nd goal came from Adam Hiscock who once again positioned himself in front of the net and pounced on the rebound to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead early.
With the momentum in their favour the Tigers then took a 3-0 lead as Sean Corvetti walked in from the left point and rifled a high hard wrist shot that found a home in the corner of the net.
Near the end of the period the Tigers found themselves 2 men short. Goaltender Matt Emanuele did his finest imitation of “the wall” and frustrated the Panther snipers. The steady play of Emanuele throughout the game boosted the team confidence and they responded with their 4th goal scored by Nick Wallace.
Hiscock, Corvetti and Hayward each tallied for their 2nd goals of the game to close out the Tigers scoring.
The Tigers now face a challenging 3 weeks with their opponents being the Toronto Eagles, Toronto Royals (winners of the Brian Steele Memorial Tournament) and Mississauga Jets.
