FINAL LONDON JR. KNIGHTS - Sunday November 5, 2006

The Streetsville Tigers entered the final game of the tournament with high hopes of taking home the host crown as Champions of the Bantam AA tournament. Their opponents were the London Jr. Knights who also had a successful weekend to allowing them to advance to the finals.

From the opening drop of the puck goaltending was a key factor with saves some big saves being made at both ends of the rink. It was evident that the team from London were not going to roll over and hand this game to the host team. The Tigers struggled initially to hit their stride but much of that could be attributed to the execution of the Knights team as they skated relentlessly. The 1st period included some spirited play from Dustin Hayward and Adam Galbraith who was nursing a sore back from a vicious knee that Hulk Hogan would have been proud of.

In the 2nd period the Tigers took the lead on a laser from the point by David Canavan. With his quick release Canavan was the 1st one to finally figure out the London goaltender. Less than 2 minutes later the Knights came back as they jammed the puck past the fallen Tigers goaltender to tie the score at 1-1. the game continued at it’s high pace and was very entertaining and nerve wracking at the same time. To the Tigers supporters relief Nick Wallace scored a gola on a masterful tip on of a shot fired by Adam Hiscock. Phew!!! Now we are on our way…NOT!!!

2 minutes later London tied the score on a breakaway on a nice shot by the London forward, low to the short side. Then with only 16 seconds left London took the lead for the 1st time in the game on the power play.

The 3rd period was filled with opportunities by both teams but neither team was successful in finishing around the net. The Tigers never gave up but were not able to mount a comeback. The London Jr. Knights counted down the final seconds of the game and went home as the Champions in the Bantam AA division.

Despite the loss the Tigers can hang their heads high as they played consistently all weekend and never gave up until the final buzzer. The coaching staff were proud of the boys and now look forward to getting back to the regular season games.
