SEMI-FINAL GOULBOURN RAMS Saturday November 4, 2006

The Rams earned a spot in the semis by compiling a 2-1 record over the past 2 days. After making the road trip from the Ottawa area it was clear that the Rams were on a mission and wanted to take back with them some hardware from Streetsville. True to form the Rams opened the scoring in the semi-final 5 minutes into the game. The shot from the defence was deflected by a Goulbourn forward, rendering the Tiger’s goaltender Connor Clark helpless. The Rams continued to force the play in the opening period but were unable to increase their lead. The 1st period ended 1-0 in favour of the Goulbourn Rams.

In the 2nd period the Tigers started to come to life and found their “Grind and Find” game at the perfect time. Emotions started getting high as Ryan Johnston started getting under the skin of their opponents. With a few choice words, a couple of friendly nudges and maybe one or two jabs Mr. Johnston became #1 on the Goulbourn Christmas list.

To add insult to injury Ryan Johnston stormed the Rams net with 1:56 left in the 2nd period and jammed in the puck behind the goaltender completing the scoring for the 2nd period and leaving the game ties at 1-1 at the end of 2.

The 3rd period continued to be a high spirited emotional affair with both teams looking for the opportunity to take the lead for an opportunity to play in the finals Sunday morning. Fortunately it was the Tigers who were the the ones to capitalize 1st on a goal by Adam Hiscock. The key to the goal was a “pinch” my Mark Shiozaki on the defence giving the Tigers a chance to regroup and set up the winning goal.

But just to remind the Tigers that there was support at the other end of the rink Connor Clark stepped up and made some big saves on several breakaways and close in opportunities with 6:22 and 2:47 remaining in the final period. With a huge team effort the Tigers were victorious and now advance to the finals on Sunday morning.
