TIGERS “PRIDE” SHINES THROUGH ALL WEEKEND

The Streetsville Tigers Bantam AA team proudly represented their association at the 39th Annual Streetsville Hockey Tournament this past weekend. They were one of only two Streetsville teams to make it to the finals in there respective divisions. The team leadership led by coaches Mike Canavan and Matt Emanuele ensured that the team remained focused on what have been their keys to success this season, execution and hard work.

Game #3 Saturday November 4, 2006
To reach the semi-finals on Saturday evening the Tigers ended up 1st in their division with a 3-0 record after defeating the Dallas Penguins earlier in the afternoon. In this game the Tigers started without the services of Mark Shiozaki (wrist) and Matt Raleigh (collarbone). Usually when you play in tournaments there will be a few teams who are from out of town and this game was no exception. The Penguins traveled all the way from Texas to compete north of the border. Records show that in the years 2000, 2001 and 2002 of this tournament a Dallas team was crowned champion in at least one of the divisions. It’s obvious they take their hockey seriously in the Longhorn State.

The 1st period was not very decisive for the Tigers as they held a 1-0 lead for the 1st 10 minutes. Justin Iskra, while nursing some tender ribs, scored the lone Tigers goal with a close in shot that magically trickled under the fallen Penguins netminder. Does Justin have an ability to cause people to levitate? What ever the case it was the edge that the Tigers needed heading into the 2nd period.

Matt “Bear” Emanuele made Matt Sr. and Tamara proud with some big saves while Dallas had the power play. It seems kind of odd that we would have a Bear playing on the Tigers, and have you ever noticed that when you open up the lid on your Tim Horton’s coffee the seam of the cup is staring you in the face…oh the mysteries of life.

So back to the hockey game…Jace McGrath and Adam Galbraith played a little Tic Tac Toe to score a beautiful goal shorthanded goal, giving the Tigers a 2-0 lead. Dallas came right back and scored on the power play with 6:19 left in the 2nd period exciting the Dallas Cheerleaders (no…it wasn’t really them but you know what I mean). Dustin Hayward came right back for the Tigers after taking a nice pass from Ryan Johnston from behind the net.

The Tigers continued their dominating play right into the 3rd period as Adam scored from Adam, Hiscock from Galbraith that is, making it 4-1 in favour of our Tigers. To add insult to injury “The Magician” Iskra performed Act II with some slight of hand and from behind the net placed the puck neatly behind the goalie. The Tigers won the game 5-1, advancing them into the evening semi-finals against the Goulbourn Rams.
