The 1st meeting of the year between the Streetsville Tigers and Mississauga Hornets took place on Tuesday night at the Hershey Centre. The Tigers were missing Riley Skyba and Adam Galbraith. After splitting there last 2 games the Tigers faced the Hornets who are currently in 12th place. Historically it is these teams that the Tigers often struggle against so it was hard to predict an outcome. Once the game got underway after the final pass of the Zamboni it was clear that the Tigers were in for a game. If it wasn’t for Conor Clark who was fresh from a lengthy business trip to Mexico (sounds good anyways) the Tigers could have found themselves digging themselves out of a huge hole. Of note was a huge toe save while the Tigers were shorthanded. The Tigers had a couple of power plays in the period but were unable to score. There were definite moments of intensity with some bone jarring hip checks by David Canavan and Sean Corvetti. The 1st period ended 0-0. The 2nd period was the same as the first until the 7:12 mark when David Canavan fired a quick shot from the point and Jace McGrath pounced on the rebound and fired it into the open net. Then with 2 minutes left in the period Conor Clark showed his true colours (with tan lines) as he stuck out his right pad to close the door on a wide open net that the Hornets thought was a sure goal...NOT!!! That was the moment that would set the tone for the rest of the game. The final period saw both teams unable to score. One of the steadier players on the “D” was “D” a.k.a. David Johnston. His poise and confidence had a positive influence on the rest of the team. On that note the Tigers quietly packed their bags and tippy-toed out of the rink with the 2 points keeping them in 8th place.
