TIGERS SUCCESSFUL IN “DUSTIN” OFF THE SHARKS

Well it was back to the regular season for the Tigers this past Sunday after successfully hosting the Streetsville Hockey Tournament last weekend. With a weeks layoff the Bantam AA Tigers practiced hard on developing their game and were looking forward to having an opportunity to put it the test during game conditions against the Humber Valley Sharks.

The 1st period saw the Tigers take an early two man advantage and despite controlling the puck in the Sharks end they were unable to get any effective shots. Actually the Tigers seemed a bit lethargic at times and were looking for a little inspiration from within. While they pondered who would decide to take the leadership role the Sharks decided to give them a little inspiration by scoring twice to take an early 2-0 lead. Now with their striped coats against the wall the Tigers realized that there was no one to blame but themselves. One person who showed up for the game was Dustin Hayward. With 7 minutes left in the period the “Say Hay(ward ) Kid” rammed home a chance from close in front of the net. On the play the Tigers center, Adam Galbraith was sent crashing to the ice after forcing the play deep in the Sharks zone to set up the opportunity by colliding with the defenceman. It was truly a sacrifice for the team and a costly one at that as Adam will be out up to 8 weeks with a fractured wrist.

With their claws no longer retracted the Tigers, exclamation Dustin Hayward, surged forward and stalked the Sharks again resulting in Mr. Hayward’s 2nd goal of the night, making it a 2-2 game. The Tigers were sending a message that they would not be denied in the trenches and true to form Nick Wallace hammered in another close in chance on a set up from Justin Iskra, giving the Tigers a 3-2 lead at the end of the 1st period.

The 2nd period saw Riley Skyba earn his Tiger stripes by scoring the Tigers 4th goal, giving the Tigers a 2 goal lead. Connor Clark played a steady game despite giving up the 1st 2 goals of the game and held his composure until the final buzzer. Humber Valley was starting to show their frustration but it ended up being Tigers Adam Hiscock being called on a questionable hitting from behind call. The Tigers supporters in the stands are still trying to figure that one out.

The Tigers continued to dominate in the 3rd period and Dustin Hayward successfully completed the hat trick giving the Tigers a 5-2 lead. To mark the occasion Hunter Hiscock’s toque was tossed onto the ice to acknowledge the “Herculean” feat we had all just witnessed. The Tigers continued with there intensive play, personified by Ryan Johnson scoring while they were shorthanded on a breakaway making the final score 6-2.

Despite the victory the Tigers came out of the game nursing a few injuries but no doubt will be ready to go against the rival Mississauga North Stars Tuesday night.
