Jan 5, 2007....BACK TO THE BASICS FOR THE TIGERS AND A WELL DESERVED WIN The Tigers were successful last night defeating the York Toros 4-0 in a pivotal “4-point” game. The Toros are one of the teams that the Tigers are chasing for a spot in the playoffs. Coming off a strong effort against another one of the league leaders, West Mall Lightning, the Tigers continued their execution of the basics the coaching staff has been illustrating from the beginning of the season. Another positive from the game was overall collective effort of the team. Nick Wallace scored the opening goal for the Tigers 1st Period from in close after David Johnston fired a wrist shot on the Toros goaltender. Just over a minute later Ryan Johnston buried the 1st of 2 goals for him on the evening. Once again the Tigers were quick to pounce on a rebound on a shot from Sean Corvetti at the point. The 2nd period was scoreless. In the 3rd period Ryan Johnston walked in from the left wing and fired his 2nd into the Toros net. The scoring ended in a manner that was representative of the teams effort all night as Jace McGrath out-hustled the York team and charged the net to be rewarded with 1:31 left in the game. Matt “Bear” Emanuele was sharp when called upon and earned a well deserved shut out but he also received strong support from the Tigers quartet of defenders D. Johnston, Canavan, Corvetti and Shiozaki. Each remaining game becomes more critical and the Tigers will have to step it up another notch as they face the league leaders for the remainder January.
