January 4, 2007...LIGHTNING STRIKES TWICE...IN THE SAME SPOT?!

After a successful tournament in St. Catharines the Tigers returned to their home rink in Streetsville to face the West Mall Lightning. The Tigers seem to be “snake bit” in this arena and Thursday’s result was on different. Their effort could not be faulted but penalties ended up being the difference in the game. The West Mall team was successful in scoring on 2 of there several power play opportunities with the final score being 2-1 for the Lightning.

In the 1st period the Tigers had the early chances but were not able to capitalize on them. With 5:21 remaining, West Mall scored on their 1st power play. With the Lightning still holding a one goal lead Mark Shiozaki fired a low hard shot from the point allowing Matt Raliegh to tip it in for the tieing goal.

After the 2nd period flood the teams prepared for the final 15 minutes. Both teams had chances to take the lead but it was the team from West Mall who scored the go ahead goal at 10:27.

That was the final score and unfortunately the Tigers were unable to make any ground on the teams ahead of them for the final playoff spot.

Next on the schedule is a game tomorrow night against the York Toros, a pivotal 4 point game.
