December 27, 2006...TIGERS DEFEAT PETERBOROUGH IN A FRUSTRATING GAME

During the warm-up it was evident that the team from Peterborough had the physical advantage with many of their players towering over the Tigers. The opening period started with the Tigers skating with some zip after a grand feast of pizza and wings at Misty Jacks. They fired shots at the diminutive goaltender from Peterborough but were unable to put it past him until the 7:24 mark when Justin Iskra scored on a Tigers power-play.

As play continued it was starting to become evident that the officiating might be a factor in the game. If anything it was the start of the frustration. Despite being shorthanded several times through the 1st and 2nd period “Bear” was solid between the pipes. His teammates responded with a goal at 11:38 by Jace McGrath who banged it in on a scramble in front of the Peterborough net making it 2-0 for the Tigers.

At 9:41 Peterborough scored a power-play goal to make it 2-1 after Ryan Johnston was called on a double minor. To add insult to injury Jace McGrath was called for “Hitting from Behind” 3 minutes later, banishing for the remainder of the game. The Tigers continued to rack up the penalty minutes without even trying.

Justice was returned to the Tigers as Mark Shiozaki fired a low hard shot from the right point that was deflected by the Peterborough defenseman into his own net making the final score 3-1.

Now the Tigers rest up for a Thursday match against the Monroe Hawks at 3:30pm.
