The Streetsville Tigers left the Iceland arena last night with mixed feelings. Despite the 2-1 loss to the league leading Mississauga Jets it was a morale victory as they played with grit and determination but unfortunately unable to finish on a few good opportunities. Will someone please send us a “break” soon!!! The Tigers dominated play during the initial 4 minutes of play with the Jets showing their 1st place form for the next. At the 8 minute mark the Jets scored the 1st goal of the game despite some solid goaltending from “Bear” between the pipes. The Tigers and Jets delivered and took some big hits throughout the game with a slight edge to our boys in Orange. One thing for sure the Jets know how to fore-check and force the play at both ends of the ice. Not to be denied the Tigers continued to execute their game plan thorugh the 1st 2 periods but were unable to put the puck behind the sharp Jets goaltender. With a new sheet of ice after the Zamboni treatment between the 2nd and 3rd period the Tigers knew what they had to do and were rewarded with a goal by the hard charging Ryan Johnston. Soon after that the Tigers found themselves shorthanded. The Jets took advantage of the opportunity with the go ahead goal at the 6 minute mark. The remainder of the game saw chances for both sides including a couple of open nets that were quickly closed by the Jets defenders. Bear remained a pillar of strength in net. Once the final buzzer sounded the crowd of supporters on both sides left the stands left satisfied with the level of play exhibited on the ice but will someone please send us a “break” soon!!!
