Bio: Steven is a Kansas native, born in Independence. His father was a fire fighter and his mother an elementry school teacher. He attended Neodesha high school and after graduation in 1982 he attended the University of Kansas where he majored in Sociology and History. He was formerly a college professor at Kansas State University before making his jump into politics.
Originally a member of the Republican party Steven began his political career by running for Mayor of Independence. After his victory Independence recorded years of prosperity and growth. He declined running for re-election as he moved his focus to the larger scale. He then ran for state senate and served a 2 terms.
Steven Whitson is currently an Independent, stating "A true democracy fulfills the needs of the people by representing the people. A two party system simply cannot offer this to fullest capacity." He is now running for Governor of Kansas.
