The Bay Boom! Fashion Show Event

     Tel. 416.296.0555 x.686                            Email: martina.svitlica@hbc.com

Reference Contact: Martina Svitlica, Event Co-ordinator, The Bay (Scarborough)

The Bay (Scarborough Town Centre branch) event co-ordinator needed a flyer on short notice in order to promote an upcoming event--a fashion show meant to celebrate the launch of the store's Boom! campaign and the latest fall fashions. We worked hard under pressure and a tight deadline in order to design and produce a great-looking and highly-effective flyer, which was mass photocopied and distributed internally to employees and externally to customers. They raised awareness of the event and persuaded large numbers of customers and employees to attend, and the event was a great success.

     Testimonial - October 12, 2007

"I would recommend FFTB to anyone who needs fast, creative, and reliable service. [They] delivered the flyers for my event two days before they were due, which gave me more time to plan and concentrate on other things. I will definitely use FFTB for any future advertisements."

     Legendre Auto Detailing

The Dilemma... finding the target market
Our work with this client began with a very important problem which many small businesses find themselves with these days: identifying their target market. Before the appropriate brand image can be developed and before marketing materials and campaigns can be designed, it is first necessary to determine which group of people will most likely want to use this service. Once this is determined, all further marketing efforts must be directed towards reaching and appealing to these target groups.
So... what exactly is the target market for auto detailing and cleaning services? During our initial meeting with this client's representative, which consisted of a consultation session and an analysis of the client's initial marketing strategy, the demographics of their high-potential clients was discussed. It was concluded that there were two main groups to whom these services would appeal to the most: 1) Young, career-oriented women aged 21-30, who don't pay as much attention to the detailing of their car as they could, and 2) Working-class and executive-class men and women aged 35-60 who are too busy with career and family-related commitments to worry about the state of their car. This realization also meant that the client's initial marketing strategy (shown in the image of their original flyer, below) would not be appropriate, since it generally appeals to a demographic group (Young men, aged 18-25, car-oriented enthusiasts) that consists of low-potential clients. These people already care greatly for their vehicles and take good care of them on their own.

This client's original flyer.

The Brand... developing an appealing image
Our next task was a complete rebuilding of the client's brand image and theme. Originally, their enterprise began as a partnership called "R&M's Auto Detailing" (as seen in the original flyer, above), and so once the business became indepedently-run, an overhaul of the name and theme was necessary. We suggested the name "Legendre Auto Detailing", a simple and yet elegant use of the owner's surname. Marketing-wise, the name evokes feelings of high-quality and longevity due to its close resemblance to the word "Legend" and "Legendary".
The name banner and logo follow with this theme. The font for the word "Legendre" was carefully chosen and made the focus of the banner, and is meant to show a sleek, shiny, gold surface. The font for the words "Auto Detailing" also adds to the sleek, clean, and professional look of the banner. The logo continues this theme as well, and is a simple, stylized rendition of a sports car, flanked on both sides by the initials L.A.D. The banner and logo are represented on all marketing materials, such as the client's business card.

     The Outreach... designing effective flyers
It had previously been identified that in order to successfully reach as many high-potential clients as possible, it would be necessary to focus all marketing efforts on appealing to these target groups of people. Thus rather than simply produce a single flyer, multiple versions, each with a different message and theme aimed at a different target group, were designed. The first series is meant to appeal to the first target group, women 21-30, while the third series is intended to appeal to the family-oriented target group, men and women aged 35-60. The second series, within which only one flyer (of two mock-ups) will be produced, is meant to be a general ad that will appeal to the entire pool of potential clients as a whole.
These flyers will be very effective, high-density media with which to spread awareness of the business within the local area and gain new customers. They will be delivered to mailboxes as part of a direct marketing campaign and will be distributed on the windshields of parked cars.

     The Future... upcoming projects
A few exciting projects that are in the planning stages include:
-The design and production of fridge magnets, which have a very high possibility of being retained by potential customers and used on their fridge, allows those who are not interested in the service at the current time refer to the magnet at a later date, when the service may be of use to themselves or an acquaintance.
-The design and production of high-gloss, 3x5 hand outs which can be given to high-potential clients along with a business card.

     Mother's Choice Homemade Ice Cream

The Business... we all scream for ice cream!
Mother's Choice Homemade Ice Cream is a small, family owned and run business selling unique and exotic flavours of homemade ice cream. This small venture began by selling original, self-developed flavours to friends and neighbours within neighbourhood. With many flavours featuring an Indian-style taste and not available anywhere else, Mother's Choice Homemade Ice Cream became especially popular within the local Indian community, and the family gained many loyal clients. The name "Mother's Choice" was chosen as the name of the business because one unique aspect of the ice cream is that it is all-natural and chemical-free (containing no additives or preservatives) and that it is always made fresh to order--making Mother's Choice Ice Cream the "healthy choice".

The Prospects... finding the competitive advantage
Our focus is on small businesses like this one, who have so far survived purely on word-of-mouth and loyal clients. They do not have the means or ability to expand their business to new customers and develop and market their brand. Mother's Choice had a lot of potential. They already had loyal customers, but wanted to reach more people. First, we met with this client at their home and discussed the business more thoroughly. What is their competitive advantage? In other words, what makes their products so special and what will we be focusing on the most when marketing those products to potential customers?
It was very clear what the strong point of this business was: the unique products. Ice cream itself is already widely popular and available in most stores. But this ice cream is homemade, made fresh to order with real ingredients, and tastes vastly superior. The flavours are exotic and many cannot be found anywhere else. It was decided that the unique flavours and the healthy aspect of the recipes and the process of making them were the best selling points for the business.

The Website... gaining an online presence
The website created for him serves two purposes: (1) to act as a promotional tool that potential clients can be referred to or find using a search engine, and (2) to act as a medium through which his portfolio of architectural designs and work may be showcased to potential clients.
