History
It
wasn't until October, 1992 that Borne Sulinowo became a town. Beginning
in the 19th century, the Prussians used the ground for military
training. In 1933, the Germans built a huge military base. Many
buildings were knocked down and rebuilt by Adolf Hitler in 1938. During
WWII a desert was built there for different corps. There were also a
line of around 1,000 concrete bunkers which guarded the border between
Poland and Germany. In 1939 a German POW camp was started to hold
Polish soldiers. In 1940 the POW camp sent the Polish prisoners away
and it became a camp for the French, but then later, transferred back
to
a Polish POW camp. On January 1, 1945 there were over 5,000 Polish in
the camp, but then later the Red Army forced the Germans to end the
camp. From January 22, 1945 to 1989, the Red Army made forest areas out
of Borne Sulinowo. After a political change, there was an agreement to
no longer have the Red Army part of Poland. The Russians were then the
Rulers of the land from then to October of 1992. Borne Sulinowo then
became a part of Poland. After being ruled by the Polish Army for a
short while, Borne Sulinowo was opened to the public on September 15,
1993.
