The Scottish Culture & Traditions Association (SC&T) runs a wide range of musical activities in the Aberdeen area. Much more about all their work on their website at www.scottishculture.org/index/index There are song classes for adults in the evenings over 26 weeks (10 weeks in the autumn and winter/spring and 6 weeks in the early summer). The web site gives details on the song classes being run each term. The Lemon Tree fifty plus singing group Vocal Moves have been together for over a year, under the expert guidance of Val Munro and Jimmy Reith. The sessions are great fun and concentrate on developing singing skills and confidence through an extensive repertoire of both old and new songs and vocal exercises.
They recently had a most successful performance in the Winter Gardens and have two performances in The Lemon Tree Studio already under their belt. They are now working towards creating a piece to be performed as part of Older People's Week. However despite their performance record the emphasis is firmly on enjoyment, experience and vocal development The Burns Quoir was formed by Stonehaven Folk Club for the Year of the Homecoming as a community choir, in response to an local interest in singing Burns songs.Keen singers from all over the North East have been meeting every Thursday to celebrate folksong traditions with a focus on the songs of Robert Burns. Singers have tackled almost 30 of The Bard's works to date, under the tutelage of award-winning Scots singer Christine Kydd, who is also a highly sought-after workshop leader. Workshops are fun, friendly and informative! You don't have to consider yourself a singer! New members are welcome, all songs are taught by ear, with accompanying wordsheets, there are no auditions, and participation in performance is voluntary. Both men and women attend the group, and thanks to the ongoing sponsorship of the Drumlithie Hotel, workshops take place in the function room at 7.30pm. Loud & Proud is Scotland's LGBT choir. Started in 2005, it has a membership of about 60 singers and is led by Karen Dietz.
www.ocsg.org - "We are a very friendly, secular choir with no auditions. We welcome anyone who has a passion to sing with us- whether untrained singers or music scholars! Our singing style is folk rather than classical and varies hugely from song to song – whether it’s a blues number or a gentle African lullaby. Penny Stone is our incredible, charismatic teacher who specialises in voice production. We meet up fortnightly on Thursdays (starting the 11th Oct 2012) from 18.30-20.30 at Eric Liddell centre on Morningside Road. Anyone is welcome to come along! It costs £7 (concessions £5) per session, or £25 (£15) for a series of five sessions. No singing experience is required, just drop in to the sessions if you fancy singing."
