The Singers Gathering 13th-14th February 2009

Following the successful pattern of previous Singers' Gatherings, this year we were delighted to welcome:

Craig, Morgan and Robson
Mairi Campbell as Singer in Residence, and also performing with The Cast.
Ewan Robertson and Ewan McPherson
Ailsa Cole and Kirsty Law
'The Red Yoyo'
Ewan McVicar
Ian Green and Greentrax Recordings
Wendy Carle Taylor

As ever, for many the highlight was the opportunity to make a really big noise! Craig Morgan and Robson led some 70 singers in this session for great harmony singing - I think we managed 9-part harmonies at one point.

At 4 p.m., we provided our regular performance platform for each group to perform from its own repertoire, and enjoyed a wide range of styles and topics for song. While several groups did not feel prepared to perform, as too few of their members had attended, they all joined in the choruses! More pictures of the groups on the community song group listings page.

The Muckle Sing - 23rd February 2008 Following the success of The Muckle Sing at the Singers' Gathering 2007 in Bathgate and previous Muckle Sings organised by Sangschule, the Edinburgh and Lothians TMSA branch held another on 23rd February 2008 in partnership with West Lothian Council in the Regal Theatre, Bathgate.

The tutor for the day was Sian Croose, who has tutored two previous Muckle Sings. An inspirational teacher, Sian has a wonderful knack of getting large groups of singers to surprise themselves with amazing multiple harmonies.

This day provided a welcome opportunity for the growing number of community singing groups members across Scotland to come together, along with other singers who are interested in singing as part of a big group. Of the more than 100 singers who attended, some were there on a 'come and try it' basis, others were members of new groups and some were experienced singers.

At 4 p.m., we provided a performance platform for each group to perform from its own repertoire, and enjoyed the usual wide range of styles and arrangements of songs, some familiar, others fresh to many present. More pictures of each of the groups that performed are on the community song group listings page.

Linlithgow Folk Festival 2007

At Linlithgow Folk Festival 2007, Sangschule hosted a 'Come and Sing Chorus Songs' in the Festival Hub. This was the fourth of these annual sessions; they have become a much enjoyed part of this festival, and on this occasion almost 50 singers, many of them members of song groups, came together to share songs.

Some folk got so carried away that they weren't able to stop when they went outside...

The Liltin' Lassies from Dunblane decided to make the most of the gorgeous weather.
