School Seconds is a Stroud based organisation set up in 2006 that allows parents and others to generously donate their unwanted primary, infant or junior school jumpers that would otherwise end up in the bin when they're too small or no longer needed. In particular we trade in those jumpers with a school logo or crest that cannot be purchased in the supermarket. We then sell the jumpers on at a very cheap and affordable price to suit the pockets of those who do not wish to pay excessive high street costs for an item of clothing that may only last a school year. PLEASE NOTE THAT SCHOOL SECONDS IS NOT A REGISTERED CHARITABLE ORGANISATION. why buy seconds? Second hand items may not sound like the first choice for many parents, but we've found that school jumpers with the logo are costing parents hundreds of pounds throughout the school lifetime. This is fine if you can afford around £5 and upwards for a jumper from the local school or shops, but not everyone can afford this. Coupled with the life expectancy of a jumper being 18 months due to growth spurts, if you want a school logo jumper for your child you'll probably be buying 3 or more before they've left primary school. By the time they're in secondary schools the logo jumpers are nearing £20! Our current aim is to sell on any unwanted jumpers at very much reduced prices. "But what if I don't want second hand?" Nice new school jumpers look smart and make your child stand out amongst the others. This gives you a nice feeling inside, which lasts until about 3pm when you collect them from school. At this point you notice something's wrong about the clothing which you remember was lovingly ironed and cleaned as well as it being on your child's back. Now it's been stretched, dirtied, damaged or worse still it's a totally different jumper altogether. We've had it happen to us - it's just child's play, nothing more. Would you not be quietly pleased that you didn't spend a fortune on the jumper in the first place? "Why would I give to School Seconds if they're not a charity?" Because we're not a charity, we don't have to charge charity shop prices when re-selling your unwanted jumpers. This means it's even cheaper to get a jumper from us. In addition, we also provide a swap service for those who have donated to us. Whilst we are not a registered charity, School Seconds donates to charitable organisations on a regular basis. Quality All our donated garments are checked for any wear and tear and where possible we will repair them before we sell them on. They will always be cleaned and packaged and can be delivered free of charge (in the Stroud area). Whilst every attempt is made to sell on our second hand garments in good condition, it is to be expected that as seconds they will not be 'as new'. At this time we are looking for any donations for crested jumpers of Foxmoor County Primary School, Cashes Green Primary School and St Matthews Primary School in Stroud, Gloucestershire - although any donated jumper would be accepted. Our sales pages will appear online once donations are back in stock and we will be publishing them here as soon as possible.
