Introduction
A group of santal tribe had adopted hundred percent vegetarian
food habit under the influence of 'Saint Vira' at about 3000
to 4000 years ago in Sikharbhum (Marangburu). Since then they lost their
actual identity & recognised as “Srawaka”
(a hearer). Their original country is said to have been Sikharbum &
Pachate. It is unbelievable fact that they could change completly their
food habit as ”Vegatarian”
& they could not change the cultural & its social practices even
after lapse of 300 to 400 decades of inhabitance in the deep forest of
Singhbhum & other areas of south chotanagpur.
They are basically Agriculturist in present era. They were ancient copper
miners of the fastness of hills and jungles of Singhbhum area.
This book contains details of research work together with photographs,
relevant documents collected during the survey. We spent our time &
energy for more than three years in research work. We made our best efforts
to highlight the cultural practices & social customs of this tribe.
