A quick comment:      Back to G-1: Review D-I    Teletran-1

In an exception to MP Starscream which looks nothing like him and the abominable colors, I had always adored the Masterpiece Line.  So, with the announcement of MP Megatron, I was even more excited.  Suddenly, there was the U.S. safety law which sorted put many transfans dishearten because now their beloved MP Megatron will get some sort of minor treatment to the barrel from some retailers to prevent it from looking like a real gun if imported into the U.S.  Fortunately, not all store followed this policy.  I got MP Megatron for  $CXXXV on Apr. Vii, Mmvii from ImageAnime.

R-0 Original Megatron's motto and tech specifications:

" Peace through tyranny. "

Megatron combines brute strength, military cunning, ruthlessness and terror. Aches to return to Cybertron to conquest after destroying all Autobots on earth. Plans to possess all Earth resources. Incredibly powerful and intelligent. Fires nuclear- charged fusion cannon. Can link up interdimensionally to a black hole and draw antimatter from it for use as a weapon. No known weakness.

These images were all photographed and scanned by me.  If you're a Transformers fan, this will definitely bring back some reminiscences.

2 - Side of the box.

3 - Rear of the box.

4 - Top panel of the box.

megatronmorig2.jpg (80794 bytes)R-1B:  When you remove the outer box out (above), you'll see that Megatron is sandwiched and taped down between two clear plastic trays.

megatronmorig3.jpg (97848 bytes)R-1C:  In addition to the Megatron figure these are all the accessories that were included in the box/ package/ card:

"1" fusion cannon (scope), "1" purple blaster, "1" energy mace, "1" laser dagger, and "1" Kremezeek, "1" instruction booklet, "1" trading card, and "1" miscellaneous sheet.

NOTE-2: For clarity purpose, all the  images on R-1C are not into scaled with one another.

R-2 Pre-Applied Decals/ Stickers:

The Masterpiece Edition Megatron does not come with any Pre-applied sticker/ decal adhered to the toy itself like the G1 line.  Instead, the entire action figure was all painted.  The overall paint condition was done very superbly.  I don't see any deficiency in term of bleeding, smudging, or spalling on the paint application.

R-3 Masterpiece Megatron in Walther P38 Configuration:

megatronmp5gun1.jpg (44952 bytes)megatronmp5gun2.jpg (45933 bytes)In the simple Walther P38 mode, Megatron measures approximately 11 1/4 x 7 1/4 x 1 10/16 (LxWxD in inch) and with the attachment of the fusion cannon (telescopic) his dimension increases to 12 1/2 x 9 1/4 x 1 10/16.  With the size of a 1 foot long in length, MP Megatron is one huge pistol and barely fit into adult hand in contrast to the smaller 1984 G1 Megatron version or see R-9.  With the huge size, this made MP Megatron looks very unrealistic to the real handgun.  On the other hands, the pistol is beautifully painted with silver paint and highly detail all around.  He features movable trigger, movable safety lever, hand strap, and an operational telescopic (see R-4).  With the silencer and stocking not included or made, the U.N.C.L.E. (United Network Command for Law and Enforcement) configuration is not possible at this time.  This configuration type was well known from the TV Series called "The Man From U.N.C.L.E."

As for transformation, MP Megatron is extremely difficult (harder than MP Prime/ MP Starscream/ or RID Ultra Magnus) and one hassle transformer figure to transform.  Aligning the lower and upper arm to meet each other is a pain in the butt.  Connecting or disconnecting the shoulder from the side chest cavity is very rigid and scary as well since you don't want to break it.  Transforming the crotch into the gun mode can be a hassle if not do it right.  Moreover, there are so many parts that pop out e.g. the 2 silver shoulder pads, 2 black hip pads, 2 black rear leg pads, and 2 the small silver rectangles cover his back.  Last but not least, there are just too many pieces that need to be transformed.

R-4 Special Feature:

megatronmp5gun3.jpg (49839 bytes)MP Megatron only comes with one special gimmick.  Press the circle button on the side of the fusion cannon (telescopic) and that will activated the lighting effect.  This feature uses 2 "LR44" cell button battery.

R-5 Masterpiece Megatron in Robot Mode:

megatronmprob1.jpg (63947 bytes)In this masterpiece interpretation edition, MP Megatron is indeed designed to look like his cartoon counterpart.  He has a real waist/ crotch, cartoon accuracy abdominal, great head, and well done on the paint application (black, red, and silver).  The engineering and the transformations that were put into this figure is truly amazing even though some of the transformations resemble the 1984 G1 Megatron.  From the picture, it appears that MP Megatron has a very thin leg and thigh, but it actually looks better in person.  Excluding his fusion cannon accessory, the whole body is very proportionate to one another.  Despites the heavy weight of the fusion cannon, it does not effect his arm in term of pose ability thanks to the rigid elbow joint.

R-6 Masterpiece Megatron Accessories:

megatronmprob3.jpg (71776 bytes)At the left image is Megatron holding the infamous Kremzeek who made his first cartoon appearance in the TF Season 2 Episode #62 called "Kremzeek."  Also from the cartoon series in TF Season 1 Episode #2 "More Than Meet The Eye P2", Megatron retracted his hand inward and revealed an energy mace (last image).  Last but not least, the middle image where Megatron holding the Laser Dagger and the Blaster, these two items are a reference to the original 1986 Transformers The Movie.

R-7 Masterpiece Megatron's Pet - Kremzeek:

kremzee.jpg (38553 bytes) Kremzeek is a electrical creature who was invented by Megatron to go and short circuit the Autobots and its headquarter.  The figure itself is measured approximately 1 7/16 x 9/16 x 1 1/4 (LxWxH in inch) and look very spectacular.  Kremzeek is made out of a clear orange plastic material and features no articulation.  This is the 2nd version of Kremzeek to be released and by far much more superior than the 1st version which was released as "Kiss Players Autotrooper X Atari with Prowl".

R-8 Masterpiece Megatron Articulation showing off:

megatronmprob2.jpg (65103 bytes)Although not as impressive as either MP-1 Prime or MP-2 Magnus, MP Megatron articulation still features some nice articulation.  These articulations included head, shoulder, elbow, leg, knee and feet.

R-9 G1 Megatron Vs. MP Megatron:

megatronmprob4.jpg (53003 bytes)Here are some images of scale comparison between the original 1984 Megatron and the 2007 Masterpiece edition.  As you can see, in robot mode, the masterpiece edition is nearly 2 1/4 bigger than the original version.

Special Notes: Here are "3" special notes that I think you should know:

1 - Megatron fusion cannon (telescopic sight) features lighting effect so make sure it is in working condition.  If not, make sure the battery is in good condition.  If purchased brand new from the box, don't forget to remove the clear plastic tab otherwise the lighting will not operate.  It requires 2 "LR44" cell button battery.

2 - The shoulder slab that connects into the socket of the chest cavity is very rigid and tight, be very gentle when making connection.

3 - Megatron MP has many pop out parts, so keep an eye on the 2 silver shoulder pads, 2 black hip pads, 2 black rear leg pads, and 2 the small silver rectangles cover his back.

Overall Grade: [+A] - This is by far the best of the best G1 Megatron to ever be released as of 2007.  This figure is a must have!!!!
