Quiet Riot was formed by Guitarist Randy Rhoads and Bassist Kelly Garni when they met singer Kevin Dubrow through a freind of a freind. When they first met Kevin they did not wont him the band cause he look kinda of greeky and did not have alot of potential, but Kevin was very persistent and Randy and Kelly would try to aviod him but him would keep calling them. Soon Randy and Kelly gave up and had a practice with Kevin, and he was horrible and Randy and Kelly did not want to hear him again but Kevin would keep on calling and would not stop so Randy and Kelly finally gave in and said "Well, I guess we just have to work with him". The 3 started to practice and Kevin eventually got some what good. They soon got Drew Forsyth on drums, who was in a band with Randy and Kelly before. Kevin came up with the name when he was hanging out with his friend in the british band Status Que when he said if he ever started another band he would call it Quite Right, but his accent sound like Quiet Riot, thus the name was born.
Quiet Riot first gig was at Randy's and Kelly's high school prom, and soon more gigs follow. They soon recorded a demo and became one (if not the) biggist bands in L.A, but getting a record deal for Quiet Riot was not a easy job, the scored a record deal with Casablanca records but the label backed out, after they got a record deal with Buddah records but the label would unfortunately go bankrupt. After they got a deal with CBS/Sony label and then recorded Quiet Riot (1978) and Quiet Riot II (1979) but only the albums were only realesed in Japan. Critics praised the band as the next big thing (and indeed they were) and were offerd to tour Japan but declined. Before Quiet Riot II was realesed Kelly Garni quit and was replaced by Rudy Sarzo. Soon after Kelly's departure Randy left and Quiet Riot broke up.
Randy then became the first guitarist for Ozzy Osborne and recorded 2 albums (Blizzard Of Ozz (1980) and Diary Of A Madman (1981)), soon after diary of a madman was released Rudy replaced Bob Daisley on bass. While this was happening Kevin tryed to reforme Quiet Riot but the members were not interrested so he started a new band with drummer freind Frankie Banali and soon got ex snow guitarist and bassist Carlos Cavazo and Chuck Wright. Sadley Randy Rhoads died in a freak airplane accident (Along with Andrew Aycock and Rachel Youngblood) in March 19th, 1982. This cost Rudy to quit Ozzy's band cause he could not be in that band without Randy there.
Kevin soon changed his current bands name to Quiet Riot and got a record deal with Pasha records. They went into the studio to record they first (or 3rd album) and Kevin asked Rudy to come in a play bass on the song Thunderbird, which was about Randy, Then Kevin asked Rudy if he remeberd the song Slick Black Cadillac (Origanally off of Quiet Riot II) and Rudy said yes, then Kevin asked him if he remeberd Love's A Bitch and Rudy said yes so he played bass on those two songs, and Rudy soon replaced Chuck on bass and became there bass play once again.
Metal Health was realsed in 1983. The first single realsed was the title track Metal Health. The group started to open for bands like Black Sabbath and Judas Priest. There second single, a Slade cover Cum On Feel The Nozie, Kevin and the rest of the band first did not want cum on feel the noize on the album but producer Spencer Proffer made them record the song, because of the populiarity of this single in made Metal Mealth go right to number 1 on the music billboards and sold 7 million copies worldwide.
The follow-up released, 1984's Condition Critical, was a hit because of singles like another Slade song Mamma Weere All Craaze Now and Party All Night. It sold over 3 million copies and went to number 13 on the billboards. After the Condition Critical tour was over Rudy quit the band and was replaced by Chuck Wright, Rudy joined Whitesnake in 1987.
In 1986 they released QRIII, which was a minor hit because of the singles The Wild and The Young and Twlight Hotel. The band decided to kick out Kevin in 1987 because they were sick of his rock star antics, Chuck was soon kicked out after and they got replaced with former Rough Cutt vocalist Paul Shortino and bassist Sean McNabb.
In 1988 they recorded QR but it was a failure and The only single realesed was Stay With Me Tonight. By the end of the tour in 1989 the band fell apart. Kevin fought to keep the rights the name to Quiet Riot and won in cort.
By 1991 Kevin became friends with Carlos Cavazo again and they formed the band heat but soon changed the name back to Quiet Riot. They soon Frankie and bassist Kenny Hillery joined and they recorded Terrified. Later the year kevin realesed The Randy Rhoads Years which feature songs from there first 2 albums and previously unreleased material. Kenny quit in 1995 and Chuck joined Quiet Riot again, Kenny commited suicide on June 5, 1996. Quiet Riot then released Down The Bone, which had a more harder, mordern sound.
