The scene opens on a late night in the prestigious home of “Primetime” Paul Roberts having arrived home just days ago and nearing his flight time to head out for this Sunday’s Rumble. It is raining heavily in Hollywood California and there is electricity in the air as lightning and thunder roll through the night sky. Roberts and Monie are sitting at his kitchen table presumably talking about this weeks match with Azazel. Never before has an opponent had Paul’s attention like this one. Oh sure Paul has been in big matches with main eventers, and Hall of Famers. But this match has his attention like none before it. The look on his face is a serious one, not one we have grown accustomed to seeing on the cocky yet confident king of primetime TV.
As the scene continues to open the camera slowly pans up closing in on Roberts and Monie what they are taking about specifically can not be heard as it would appear the conversation is drawing to a close. Monie stands up from his chair but Roberts remains seated. Chad: I know this one is different, but don’t get yourself too over worked about it. Promise me you will get some sleep. Primetime: … Roberts does not respond, he just sits there staring at the wall past Chad. He nods slightly but something has defiantly got his attention. Chad: I will see you tomorrow night for our flight. Primetime: Yeah…see you then. Take care, and be carful heading back to your hotel, this storm…well it doesn’t seem to be letting up. Chad gazes out the window for a moment as lightning flashes and a loud crash of thunder follows. Chad: Yeah, I know. A short pause of silence follows broken by yet again a loud crash of thunder. Chad: Don’t worry, we’ll get this guy. Roberts stare does not break. He just continues to look past Chad, and he takes a deep breath. Primetime: Yeah…I know. Roberts turns his head and looks up at Chad, the cocky smile on Roberts face returns, as if to reassure Chad. Chad: Alright then, take care I’ll see you tomorrow night. Monie leaves the room walking past the camera and the door can be heard opening and shutting behind him Roberts does not leave his seat. One can only wonder the things going through the mind of “Primetime” Paul Roberts. Is he afraid, probably not. But is he wondering how to go about this match? Oh you can count on it. Never before has Roberts faced a man like this one. Never has Roberts faced a man who was looking forward to maiming him and leaving him for dead by the end of the night. Oh sure he has had plenty of people talk and talk about shutting him up, but never one who more or less threatened his life. Roberts gets up from the table and walks over to his expensive leather sofa in his living room seated in front of his 72” LCD screen TV set. He turns on the TV and tunes it to ICWF TV, a channel that plays on a continuous loop the promos and vignettes of the wrestlers throughout the week. The promos from Azazel begin to play as lightning and thunder screams through the stormy midnight air. The promo continues to play. Primetime: That’s a freaking battle Ax…why doesn’t he just bring a knife? Roberts says in an almost distressed tone. Not his normal condescending cocky tone that we have grown accustomed to. The videos continue to play. Primetime: He doesn’t want to shut me up…he wants to kill me. Roberts leans back in the sofa looking irritated not knowing what to do about this individual. Primetime: What the hell did I ever do to this guy? He wants to slaughter me with a battle ax? Lightning flashes again and Thunder rolls as the first promo draws to a close. Roberts hits pause on his DVR and stands up and walks over to the window, staring at the midnight storm. Primetime: I knew this was coming. I knew someday I would have to face an individual like this. But I don’t know if I can win this war. Flash! Again lightning screams across the sky followed by thunder. Primetime: I mean sure, man to man, no one measures up to me. And at first I knew this guy was just a man, but after seeing him for the first time. Listening to what he has to say…I’m not entirely sure that he is just a man. Roberts again turns away from the window and sits back down on his sofa and hits play on the DVR playing into the next Promo from Azazel. The next promo continues to play. Primetime: If its just a movie….if he is just a man, why does he make the threats that he does? We are having a match this Sunday, not going into a battle to the death for the pleasure of the Romans. The promo plays on as flashes of lightning yet again crash though the midnight silence. Primetime: How do I go about this? What am I suppose to do? A flash in the night sky yet again and Roberts looks over at his end table were there is a bible laying. The lightning in the sky illuminates the words on the cover “Holy Bible”. Curious Roberts grabs the book and opens it he reads the first thing the randomly comes to, the passage reads. “Oh Death were is your sting? Oh Hell were is your victory?” Roberts turns through the pages and stops yet again on a random passage. It reads… “For we fight not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness of the highest realm.” Roberts cant help but think that the big man upstairs, you know the one who made Roberts who he is, wasn’t trying to tell him something. Primetime: Man to man he doesn’t match up. But is he a man? Is this just a movie? It doesn’t matter, because I am not fighting flesh and blood, I am fighting principles, the principles of the rulers of the darkness. He thinks he can turn on a camera and spook me? Well I can now see that the only way to fight fire…is with fire. Roberts closes up the bible with a smile on his face. He obviously has an idea, only time will tell what that is, and with only hours until Sunday’s Rumble one can only guess as to what it is. We will probably find out sooner rather than later, but you have to wonder what did he mean fight fire with fire? What does that mean as to how he is going to go after this new beast? One thing that everyone knows is that Paul Roberts is a mastermind, and once has figured out how to go about tackling this particular problem everything is going to be fine. Things don’t always go as you plan, and when that happens sometimes you have to call an audible.
