Characters used other than “Primetime” Paul Roberts
Apple Bob
-Apple Bob is the most famous of my non-“Primetime” characters although he is the least successful. Apple Bob was started in the NEWF but left over disputes over how the character was to be handled before he was ever booked in a match. His first official match came in the WCF, although he was used as a jobber. I came up with the idea of having jobbers post against other role players to give them the idea that they were actually competing, Apple Bob would never win a match unless his opponent didn’t post, and if they did post, Apple Bob would match them post for post, (no matter how bad the rps were). The Apple Bob character ended with the WCF, with only four career wins to his credit.
Chambers
-Chambers was a very short lived character that was never even launched. Following the closure of GCW, I was going to try a new character but never found a fed that I liked; consequently he was never used, because when I joined the WCF it was as Paul Roberts.
Nuke and Ground Zero (TNT)
-TNT was a tag team that I used for a short time in DSW while at the same time using “Primetime” Paul Roberts. TNT had moderate success in the DSW with numerous tag team victories including a rein as DSW Tag Team Champions. However I do not include that in my list of achievements because it was not achieved by “Primetime” and TNT and Paul Roberts were in no way associated.
Theme songs used.
“Headstrong” – Trapt (First Official)
“King of Kings” – MotorHead (Second Official)
“You Know my Name” - Chris Cornell (Third and Current Theme)
“Remedy” – Seether (WCF: Revolution)
“One of a Kind”- Breaking Point (So you think you can act?)
The name “Primetime” Paul Roberts
From the start, Paul Roberts was not originally known as “Primetime”. In fact the character was not even born in the E-fed world. Paul Roberts was my created wrestler on the Nintendo Gamecube WWE title “Day of Reckoning 2”. His original name was “Power House” Paul Roberts. But I felt that, that particular character did not fit me as I was attempting to create myself in the game. The name “Primetime” Paul Roberts was thought of as a spin off of “Hollywood” Hulk Hogan. So when the character was created it had little to no life what so ever as far as who and what he was. When I decided to sign up for Global Championship Wrestling, I thought it would be a fun idea to make the character I created on the game a multi-game character and signed up as “Primetime” Paul Roberts.
Paul Roberts was nothing more than a play off of my own name, when I found out that Shawn Michaels actual name was Michael Shawn HickenBottom, I thought the play on my own first and middle name had a nice ring to it but rather than being Robert Pahls, I settled on Paul Roberts.
However Roberts back story as an actor turned wrestler did not surface until about two to three weeks in the WCF. Originally “Primetime” was nothing more than a play on words about how the GCW, and later the WCF, was prime for the picking, or how it was the prime time to join. Kind of lame I know but the deeper character was not spawned until I was to face greater competition with deeper characters.
Finisher and Move Set.
“Primetime’s” finisher since day one in the “Day of Reckoning 2” video game has been what is known as the “Vertical Exploder”, which is a belly to belly t-bone type suplex, into a brain buster, but has always been referred to by me as the Virtebreaker. Now I am well aware that the Virtebreaker is its own move but I liked the name and I thought it fit so I kept it as that. Trust me you would not want to get hit with Roberts’ finisher. His move set is probably more similar to Shawn Michaels than anyone else, simply because I enjoy the moves that he does. Super Kick, Elbow Drop, Moonsault, ect.
Background and history.
When I originally came up with the idea to change Roberts to a deeper style character I came up with the idea of a well known TV actor that would increase his fame by becoming a pro-wrestler. This gave me loads of backstory to release at later dates when I saw fit and made the character so much more interesting. Now throughout different role-plays I have referenced different fictional movies that he supposedly stared in. This gave me more basis for the foundation of his character and who he is as a person. A full history of the character before wrestling will be given at the Pre-wrestling link.
Chad “The Truth” Monie and other supporting cast.
Like most things that I include in my role plays they are some how inspired by real life events or media. The supporting cast has always been based on people in my real life.
Chad “The Truth” Monie:
Is based on my real life best friend Chad Everett Gross, who is also ironically the inspiration behind another short lived supporting cast member Everett Gross. Chad was my best man in my wedding has been my best friend for a very long time and even to this day we live a great distance apart and still get together from time to time to watch wrestling, football, or just hang out or play games. Chad is without a doubt my best friend and I love him like a brother. The nick name “The Truth”, although in Monie’s backstory was given to him by Paul because Chad never lies to him, was actually a name that my friend Chad gave himself just because he liked the name; so I used it in the character. Monie is just a name I came up with as a word play on money of course just to mix it up a bit.
Everett Gross:
Was a short lived supporting cast member, like I said is also based on Chad, however by name only. The character is actually nothing like Chad, I only created the character to create more character to character interaction other than just myself and Chad Monie. Everett Gross, was in fact more heel than even Roberts and there was often an internal struggle between Monie and Gross for the direction to lead Roberts, as Gross was essentially Monie’s equal. Gross served as Roberts heel conscience as Monie served as Roberts face conscience. Following my start in WCF management I ended the character stating that he went back to managing the restaurant that I originally met him at. Not long after joining the UWF I began using Everett Gross as the host of variouse "Planet Primetime Productions" TV shows.
Bridget:
For a short time Paul Roberts in story had a girlfriend that I used to help tone down Roberts ego and temper a bit during his run as WCF World Champion. Of course this character was inspired by my wife Bridget. This character was created and brought in not only to help mold Roberts into more of a respectable champion, but at the same time allowed me to have the group surrounding Roberts continue to swell and grow. Don’t get me wrong, I love my wife dearly but eventually the Bridget character became un-useful to the development of the character and was eventually ended as well. Upon my in ring return it has gotten back to the way it started with just Paul and Chad, will the others come back or new ones show up? I don’t know at the moment, perhaps if I would deem them useful again, but for now Paul and Chad is all that is needed.
King of Kings Gimmick
At one time Paul Roberts began refering to himself as the King of Kings. The former "Primetime" Paul Roberts King of Kings gimmick, had nothing to do with the mirroring Triple H, King of Kings gimmick. The gimmick was inspired and started in the DSW when I was representing the WCF as there champion in another fed with a rival DSW Champion. The gimmick was to give the impression that Paul Roberts was in no way an equal to the DSW Champion, but that he was in fact higher and above the DSW title. Being the WCF Champion made him better than everyone else including the DSW current title holder. It can be argued that a fed’s world champion is in fact the “King” of that particular fed. So I started the gimmick and started using the theme song to imply that Roberts being champion and “King” of the WCF made him higher than all other champions or “kings” of any other feds, making him in fact the “King of Kings”. Now I am a very religious man so I know this is pushing boundaries a bit as far as my faith goes. But even Roberts in character has said that the only King better than him, is the lord God himself who created him. In no way making him greater or equal to God in anyway, it just takes his arrogance to a new level.
Images of Paul Roberts
There have only been two past images of “Primetime” that I have used to represent him. The pictures are for mere look-a-like purposes and in no way mean that he is that character. The first picture that was to be used to represent “Primetime” was one of Batista in a suit holding the World Heavyweight Championship (WWE), to represent Roberts holding the WCF World Title, however when I finally went to use this picture another person had Batista as a look-a-like. So I went to my second choice, and this pic can be found at the end of most DSW rps, and it is that of Randy Orton in a suit holding the Heavyweight Championship (WWE), representing Paul Roberts holding and carrying the WCF World Title in DSW. Following my run in management I removed the pic because I was no longer champion. Currently I use a picture of Christian Cage (TNA) standing in the darkness with blue smoke around him. I went to this because it leaves some up to the imagination and does not just say that “Primetime” looks exactly like Christian Cage. Also as things have progressed I saw Roberts being more similar to Christian than to Orton, so I felt that it fit better as well.
”Primetime’s” Banner
“Primetime’s” banner and the "Planet Primetime Productions" banner were created by Trevor Ulmer a good friend of mine that I talk to on a regular basis to this day, who in fact helped me a lot with leaning html code along with helping me build the home page for Paul Roberts. I owe a lot of thanks to Trev for all he has helped me with involving the evolution of the character. Thank you Trev.
